At John O’Groats Harbour, climb aboard your awaiting boat and find a comfortable spot on the spacious deck or in the comfortable saloon area. Set sail on the Pentland Firth and — depending on the weather — take one of two possible routes.
Marvel at an abundance of seabirds at either the colossal cliffs near Duncansby Head, or the uninhabited island of Storma. As you explore the rugged scenery by boat, you’ll see puffins, guillemots, razorbills and arctic skuas, among other native bird species.
With luck, you’ll catch a glimpse of Atlantic Grey Seal colonies from an excellent vantage point on deck. Listen to informative commentary from your guide throughout the cruise and enrich your knowledge of Scotland’s natural history.
After 1.5 hours of sailing, bid your guide farewell and disembark at the marina.
While I was in John O'Grotes I was able to take this wonderful wildlife tour one incredible sunny day! The North Sea brought out her brightest blue for us, and the sun was on full shine! It's a nice size boat that we were on and the crew and captain were excellent and gave an audio tour!

This boat trip around the island of Stroma was excellent, we really enjoyed it. We saw many different varieties of birds, plenty seals basking and swimming and the close-up views of the island, cliffs and caves were great. Running commentary over a loudspeaker in English ensured we had plenty information about what we were seeing. Definitely recommend this trip and it's very good value for money at only 12 approx per person.
Excellent narrative from driver. He was well informed. Overall a pleasant day with plenty of interesting stops on the coach trip. Would recommend to 0thers.
This is an excellent, value for money cruise. The crew seemed to know all about what birds were flying about and also the island. We would recommend this to all
Thanks to a really sunshine day , the trip was more enhanced with the cruise trip around Stroma Island where the colony of grey , and harbour seals were on the six miles islands shore line almost everywhere. There was also quite a few species of sea birds , especially the Gannets sky diving into the ocean for fish right in front of the ferry.
Good value for money at only 13 !
