What You Can Expect

Matsushima and Shiogama Cultural Tour Including One-Way Train Ticket from Tokyo

Seascape of Matsushima

For 6:45am, make your way to Tokyo Station and head to the Tohoku bullet train platform in order to catch the 7:16am service to Matsushima. On arrival at Hon-shiogama station, you’ll greet your guide at the ticket barrier and begin your full-day tour.

Your first stop is a green tea store, where you’ll sample different varieties of tea and try a sake-based green tea cocktail. Then, head to a sake brewery to discover the brewing secrets behind Japan’s national beverage and, of course, to taste sake samples.

Break for lunch (own expense), choosing to enjoy local delicacies such as sushi, seafood, and oysters before experiencing a tea ceremony at Kanrantei Tea House. Your ceremony takes place in the Goza-no-ma room, an elaborately decorated space not usually open to the public, and involves drinking green tea while overlooking Matsushima Bay.

Your tour culminates with a walking tour, during which you’ll visit top Matsushima attractions including Zuiganji Temple, the Godaido Temple, the Entsuin Temple, and, if time allows, the ancient pine tree of Saigyo Modoshi.

The tour concludes at Matsuhima-Kaigan station at 4:30pm.
