Learn about the history and culture of Kitakata on this half-day private tour. Visit a temple and shrine with a private guide, who also takes you to a Japanese sweets shop and a sake brewery. Transportation by private vehicle is included.
  • Half-day Japanese culture tour of Kitakata
  • Explore the city with a private guide and private transport
  • Visit a Buddhist temple and Shinto shrine
  • Learn how sake is brewed
In the late morning, your tour starts by meeting your private guide at Kitakata Station. Then set off on your journey of the city's religious sites and culinary venues.

You'll visit a sakagura (sake brewery) founded during the Edo period, where you can see how sake is made and enjoy the chance to taste it, if you wish (own expense). Then take a break for lunch (own expense) before continuing your tour with a visit to a Shinto shrine, home to a sacred gingko tree that's more than 600 years old. Learn about the significance of this Kumano shrine, which used to be worshiped by the local samurai.

Next, head to a Buddhist temple on the cliff, where you can see one of the largest Buddha statues in Japan with a length of about 26 feet (8 meters), carved out of wood. Then visit a wagashi shop, which sells Japanese sweets, before your tour ends in the early evening at your starting point.
