What To Expect

Eat and shop like a Japanese local during this immersive, food-themed trip inside Tokyo’s famous Tsukiji Market. If you want to get a sense of Japanese culinary culture, you couldn’t possibly start at a better place.

Meet up with your guide just outside the market’s main gate, in the morning. As you navigate your way through this labyrinth of all things seafood, learn from your guide about the market’s history and why many Japan’s top chefs visit here daily to pick up the freshest-quality ingredients. You never know what you might find as you stroll past the outer stalls of this amazing food center. You might see piles of sea urchin (uni) stacked neatly in boxes, watch as vendors carve massive Bluefin tuna or spot pufferfish floating in tanks.

With all this walking, you’re sure to work up an appetite. Luckily, you sample a tasty assortment of Japanese foodstuffs like sushi, Japanese-style omelets, Japanese tea, sake, fried fish cakes, and fresh oysters to help fuel your exploration.

Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple (Pass By)

Meet your guide in front of the gate of Tsukiji Honganji Temple at 8:15am and start exploring the Tsukiji fish market on this 3-hour food-focused tour.

Traveler Tips

Wear comfortable shoes since you do a lot of walking.
It's expensive, but once you factor in all the food you get, it's really quite reasonable.
I recommend however, wearing waterproof boots/shoes in the inner fish market area.

The tour was great way to experience the fish market and local shops. Tak was a fantastic and knowledgeable guide.

What a great experience!!! I am coming back with friends to shop! Chihiro-san with Japan Wonder Travel, was so pleasant to be with. She provided lots of info and great little shops for the best quality of food, tea and kitchen accessories. I got myself a mini wasabi grader made with shark skin!!! Oh! The food is amazing, I left with a full stomach! The best raw oyster I have ever had!!!

Sanae was informative and personable on our tour through the outer market. We ate, drank, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves under her guidance. It was the perfect intro to our stay in Japan. Highly recommend this tour to immerse yourself in the culture and tastes of Japan.
Excellent Tour

Had a wonderful knowledgeable guide called Yuki, plenty of food to sample and things to see, had a great time 😄
Great tour!
Heather_P, Feb 2020
Our Tsukiji tour was fantastic! The market itself is super interesting. Our guide, Chi, was very friendly and knowledgeable and able to answer our many questions. The food was delicious, too! We would highly recommend this tour—we learned so much more than we would have on our own.
Great first Day
jyilpet, Jan 2020
My guide Lily was awesome!! I did this experience on my first day in Tokyo and it was a wonderful experience. The food choices where great and so fresh! Lily was kind and so patient with the group. Her English was great and she told us so much about the fish market including a little of the history of the market. Lily also gave us wonderful ideas and places to go in Tokyo. She went to above and beyond and even helped me get back to the train station. I will be forever grateful to her!!!
Great info

Talking w stall holders

The Fish Market tour was the last thing I did before leaving Japan and it was a perfect way to end the holiday. It would also be a perfect way to start out a holiday in Japan! The tour took us through the markets, stopping to see, and regularly taste, products and wares. Our guide was friendly, professional and spoke English very well. It’s worth it to take this tour, instead of just wandering by yourself. And we finished w a cup of warm saki- very welcome on the cold winter’s day.
A Wonderful Tour

Mazda was a wonderful guide for the tour. She was friendly, kind and knowledgeable. We enjoyed exploring the markets and tasting amazing things along the way! Highly recommend this tour and our guide.
Very Nice Tour
Pablo_T, Jan 2020
We had a really great time visiting this place. Our guide, Mrs. Yuki, was so kind and polite! She started the visit explaining some cultural and religious issues about the Tsukiji Hongwanji (temple), located just in front of the market. After that, we went to the Tsujiki experience, and I have to say, It's essential doing this with a local. They know exactly where to go and what to taste, so if you go alone, you will miss the essential. Highly recommended!
Rae and thorough experience!

Yoshi is my favorite tour guide to date.  She was professional, knowledgeable, and fun, with great taste in food and an excellent selection of stops. She even suggested things for me to do after the tour was over all of which turned out to be great fun.  I would do this tour again and recommend it it to all!
Really enjoyable adventure
Erick_K, Nov 2019
We met our tour guide (Yoshi) and the rest of the group that morning. It was nice, as the group was a total of 4 people + Yoshi. She was a great guide and super knowledgeable as she took us around the fish market showing and explaining items found in the various vendor markets. My wife has celiac disease (so she can't eat anything with Gluten), and Yoshi was extremely helpful in advising what she could and couldn't try out while we were there, and even for the lunch, arranged for an alternative meal for her at the restaurant. This was so very much appreciated by us. We both found this tour to be both informative and very enjoyable, and would highly recommend the tour and Yoshi. For someone coming from the US to Tokyo, seeing the fish market was really interesting and a very unique experience, and would recommend it to everyone.
Wish I could give more!
Ilkka_R, Nov 2019
My family loved this tour. The guide kept us eating and drinking for 2 hours! Tea, sake, beans, eggs, fish, fish, fish! We went back and bought. He gave us a map and marked the stalls. Wow. Thank you Toshi
Fish market
Helen_A, Nov 2019
What was meant to be a visit to a fish market where chefs come to select their fish , was a walk through an ordinary market. Apparently the market has moved to other premises but the tour continued to operate without the main attraction
Response from Host, Nov 2019
Thank you for joining our tour and taking the time to leave us your honest feedback. We would like to extend our sincerest apologies for not being able to deliver you the best experience that was good enough to meet your expectations. As for the relocation of the market, we have written about it on the "Special Instructions" page from relocation so that guests could see before booking. Though the market has been moved, we always visit a small wholesale market where chefs come to select their fish. If your only purpose of the tour is to check out the huge inner market, we are very sorry about that. Our tour is mixed Japanese food market explore with fish small wholesale market. We take your feedback very seriously to ensure that we improve the quality of our tour, so everyone can have a great experience. We continue doing our best for guests.
Great tour

My wife and I had a great guide. The tour took us though the different areas around the market before we saw the tuna cutting demonstration. the food we were able to sample throughout the tour was very good. I would do this tour again
Kyoco is A+++
maicher2019, Oct 2019
Our group was blessed by having Kyoco as our guide. She was informed, warm and lovely. We have already recommended her to anyone that will listen and will certainly schedule again on our next visit to Tokyo.
A great primer to Tokyo’s food scene
Julie_L, Oct 2019
We booked this tour to get a better understanding on Tokyo’s Tsukiji market and Japanese food in general. Our guide Mazda was exceptional, and went out of her way to provide recommendations when asked. This tour is great value and you get a ton of samples over the course of 3 hours; come hungry!
Even better than expected
D939TNdanj, Oct 2019
I went on this tour on a Saturday morning while visiting Tokyo with two friends. It was one of the highlights our our trip. Our guide, Kyoko, was so sweet, funny, knowledgeable, and caring. She made sure that we, and the other couple on our tour, were able to take everything in at our own pace. The Tsukiji market has an amazing range of Japanese food and drink... it really is a great way to throw yourself into the 'foodie' culture of Tokyo. My favorite experiences were seeing tuna prepared for sushi and seeing the precision in making the Japanese omelet. Very highly recommended!
