I had a great stroll through Harajuku with Mike, who definitely knows his stuff. He was willing to do the tour even though it was just me, which he totally didn't have to do, but I'm grateful for. He started with the themes of traditional Japanese architecture, and discussed knowledgeably how individual Japanese architects are maintaining or adapting those themes to the needs of today. Mainly, given the neighborhood, in trendy designer shops so you have brand image and ego to deal with too, though he brought along a bunch of pictures to give a more well-rounded view. I learned a lot, saw some buildings I would have otherwise overlooked or missed, and had a great conversation. I'd definitely book another of his tours the next time I'm in Tokyo.
We were a big group and we had a blast . Mike was very nice and gave us very good recommendations for Tokyo in general !
Excellent tour, the guide is friendly and knowledgeable. If you have some interest, even marginal, in modern architecture, you'll enjoy this tour. The area the tour explores is exciting as well with other attractions nearby.
Mike from LA was very knowledgeable, patient, and interesting. He appealed to our very diverse group on many levels. His knowledge of architecture in Tokyo was impressive and we could have done this longer--except for the fact that we had just landed in Tokyo from the US and we were seriously jet-lagged. Great opportunity to see a slice of Tokyo and I recommend it highly -- with Mike,
A way to see modern architecture in Tokyo the fact that the groups are small allows for a more interactive discussion with the guide.
