Meet up with your guide in the morning or at noon (please select departure time at checkout) in front of Tsukiji Honganji Temple, located just outside the famous seafood market. Visit the popular Tsukiji Outer Fish Market and browse the shopping and sample tasting areas. As you wander the aisles of this colorful, chaotic market you’ll observe everything from giant tuna to sea urchin to octopus arranged for sale.

If you select the tour departing at noon, time permitting, you will stop at the Namiyoke Shrine to learn some tips about how to pray in a traditional way. Stop by some local shops with your friendly local guide and see some Japanese traditional knife and kitchen tools, local pickles and more.

Once you’ve had your ‘fill’ of seafood, proceed with your guide to the gourmet cooking studio of one of Asia’s largest culinary schools, boasting more than 150 studios throughout the region. Following the instruction of an experienced cooking teacher, you’ll learn to prepare two ‘washoku’ recipes, a style of Japanese cuisine emphasizing traditional and homemade techniques. This typically includes a sushi roll along with a Japanese-style omelet, called ‘tamagoyaki,’ plus side dishes.

Finish your session by digging into your tasty creations for lunch, enjoying your meal accompanied by your choice of wine, plum sake or soft drinks. You’ll leave with a full stomach and a newfound appreciation for the wondrous world of Japanese cuisine and its top-notch ingredients.

Our tour group consisted of 14 tourists and 3 tour guides, yet our lead guide did not have any means of standing out in a crowd (flag, umbrella, etc.). My daughter and I stopped to buy something, I made eye contact with one of the guides to ensure that someone knew we were stopping, and when I turned around after completing my purchase (less than a minute later), the group had vanished. My daughter and I spent the next 30 minutes searching for them, to no avail. I finally called the number on my confirmation page (my cell phone plan does not include out-of-country calls, so I still don't know what that call cost me), and the guide that answered seemed to not even know we were missing from the group. We arranged a spot to meet and then she spent the next 10 minutes or so giving us a quickie tour because I was so angry, I was ready to burst. We hardly experienced any of the fish market--we absolutely could have done better just going on our own. We did enjoy the cooking class afterward, but not enough to give this tour a good rating.

We booked the day tour and lucked out because we were the old two people who had a reservation so we ended up having a private tour and cooking class. Our guide was so helpful and knowledgeable about the market. When traveling to Tokyo, seeing this market is a must do. The cooking class was such a fun experience as well. At the end we were able to try some Japanese traditional drinks as well. I would recommend this to anyone looking to learn more about Tokyo and sushi making.

Fantastic tour, guide Narumi was excellant and english translation of Japanese customs during outer market walk very informative.

My guide Narumi was absolutely wonderful and taught us things I never would have learned touring around alone. The tour of the market was very insightful and the sushi class was wonderful! I learned to make several things I've made since returning home and the class was really enjoyable.

The market tour was informative and fun, with several opportunities to interact with local merchants, sample foods and purchase items with no pressure from the guides to do so. The sushi-making class was also fun.

We are travelling with our two adult children and would highly recommend this tour. Our guide, Narumi, was so knowledgeable and could explain about the unique Japanese foods on show in the outer market. We were encouraged to stop and sample foods along the way which we really enjoyed. We then visited the inner market which was an incredible sight. Even though the market was winding down it was still an amazing place to visit! After out tour we went by taxi to the ABC cooking school which has a modern kitchen. We met Kie who taught us how to make sushi, egg rolls and a Japanese broth. It was very hands-on and we were able to sit afterwards and eat the dishes we made! Our tour was accompanied by Kyle who took some amazing photos which we can keep as a reminder of our experience - an extra touch we were not expecting but which we really appreciate! Thanks you to Narumi, Kie and Kyle for a wonderful time! We would highly recommend this tour!

Our tour guide, Kyle was fabulous. He showed us many stalls and foods and due to his knowledge and rapport with the stall holders I felt comfortable and safe in trying different types of foods. The sushi class was fun, really enjoyed making the Japanese omelette which tasted really good and the tastings of the different types of drinks.
