Incredible opportunity to watch members of a Sumo Stable close up. We took our 12 and 14 year old to watch how intensive the training is. The flexibility and fitness required by Sumo for training is incredible. Highly recommended, if you are able to sit quietly for around two and a half hours.
This was an amazing event that worked beautifully to ready us for the match in the evening. Don't go to the Sumo match without seeing a practice. Wow!!! I'm providing a five star because the event itself was wonderful. However, our guide never spoke to us. We arrived early and a kind gentleman let us inside the stable. It was cold. No one ever assisted in any manner.
My husband and I attended this tour during our trip in Japan. Thoroughly enjoyed this intimate and close up experience of sumo wrestling which is so important in the Japanese culture. Worth every penny we paid for this and could not have asked for anything more.
Great. If you can’t make it to a match then this is well worth it. It’a much better than it looks!
Wasn't sure what to expect but this was one of our tour highlights. These athletes are amazing to watch up close, you'll have a new appreciation for their sport and their conditioning. We even got to meet a few of them in person afterwards and take some great pictures. A wonderful experience!
Astonishing insight into the hard work and training that the Sumo wrestlers go through to get to the elite. This made me flinch each time they crashed into each other, the force was so great and sitting so close you practically felt it!!!
It was a great experience to be able to watch the morning sumo practice. Our guide Kota was very friendly, helpful and spoke fluent English. Kota translated questions for the sumo wrestlers at the end of practice and organised for the group to have a photo taken with sumo wrestlers.
This was one of our favorite activities in Japan. Highly recommend. You will be sitting on the floor and it smells a little but it is worth it!
This is a cool experience to see how these wrestlers practise. However, you'd need to have patience as they do certain exercises for more than 20 mins. But it worthwhile in the end as they were doing wrestling practise to each other. Theyre quite serious about their practise and its not just a show. A trip that I highly recommended.
We learned a lot about the art of sumo wrestling in the short time of the tour. We were amazed at how close we sat to watch them practice. Our guide answered all our questions and was knowledgeable about the sport and lives of these wrestlers. Although these wrestlers are large, they are really athletes that are unbelievable flexible and strong. Amazing!
This tour was excellent and a must when visiting Tokyo, we truly loved it. A very interesting insight into how Sumo wrestlers train and how hard they train.
Such a unique and interesting experience! Great chance to see sumo close up. We could hear the hits! Definitely worthwhile to do this tour!
What an amazing experience. Watching the sumos in their training ring doing their stretches and practicing at such a close range. Really intriguing to see such large men being so flexible and strong.
Excellent Experience. Great guide. Photography was difficult because of lighting conditions but I got some good shots.
Amazing to see them practice.Very unique and memorable for Japan tour.
It's an early start to the day. We found the best way to get there was by taxi, but the tour gives detailed instructions on how to get to the stable by public transport. A real insight into a world most people know nothing about. The practice is obviously hard and set exercises were interspersed with practice bouts. Very interesting, and comes with a photo opportunity after the practice is over. Seating is on traditional cushions and tatami mats and can be a little hard after an hour or so, but the opportunity to see into this usually closed world is well worth the discomfort. Great experience!
This was a great experience. I would definitely recommend this for anyone.
Awesome experience. Only comment is that if you have back/hip problems do ask for a chair as sitting on a floor crossed legged for 2 hours can become painful.
An amazing experience to see up close a Sumo training session. One of the highlights during our first Japan trip. Certainly will put this again on the agenda for the next trip.
Best experience ever! We are still talking about it! I highly recommend this! Thank you!
Our guide Kota was great and supportive in our exploration of ancient Sumo culture. The morning sumo practice is a unique experience where you will be able to quietly observe this ancient practice. My concern was that long practice will be a bit overwhelming for an observer, but I was very wrong! It is a fascinating and an amassing opportunity to be introduced to and learn more about this fascinating Japanese sport, understand more about team spirit, endurance, perseverance and honour that is so much essence of Sumo. While quietly being present in the moment. Our guide helped us to meet some of the sumo wrestlers following the practice. This was truly memorable and unique experience!
Truly astonishing how strong, flexible and fierce these men are.
A gift to be allowed into their private space.
This felt like a once in a lifetime experience. If you have any interest in sumo or Japanese culture, this is the one thing to do. It felt extremely intimate and I couldn't believe that I was there watching it in front me. Everyone about this experience was amazing.

Very impressed with the dedication and discipline of these sumo athletes. An eye- and mind- opener. Definitely a must see for an introduction to this sports unique to Japan.
