Get acquainted with traditional Sami culture and reindeer on a half-day tour from Tromsa. Alongside your guide, you’ll experience the joy of reindeer sledding through Tromsa’s picturesque, and snow-shrouded landscape. After feeding a herd of 200 reindeer, you’ll take a comfortable seat inside a ‘lavuu’ (Sami tent) to listen to stories about Sami culture around a campfire. Revitalize with delicious Sami dishes while listening to your guide perform a ‘joik’ (traditional Sami dance).
At a prearranged meeting point in Tromsa city center, you’ll board a coach destined for the reindeer camp — a traditional homestead located in Tromsa’s frozen wilderness. On arrival, greet your guide and make yourself comfortable in a sleigh pulled by wild reindeer.
Marvel at the beauty of the snow-dusted landscape as you glide through the forest and feel the refreshing breeze in your hair. After a 45-minute ride, disembark your sleigh and feed a herd of 200 wild reindeer.
After all of the action, you’ll be ready to refresh with a coffee inside a warm lavuu while listening to captivating stories from Sami culture. Pleasure your palate with bidos (a hearty Sami soup) and sweet cake, and delight in the performance of a joik by your Sami guide.
When your tour concludes, you’ll be transferred back to your original departure point in Tromsa.
The reindeer were such interesting and gentle animals. The Sami culture was explained in detail, along with historical perspective. A delicious lunch of reindeer soup was provided, and followed by a short reindeer pulled sleigh ride.
This tour was amazing! The guide was fantastic and the story of the Sami people was fascinating. Highly recommend this tour to everyone!!!!
Good guide and great to have information about the local Sami culture explained in such an enthusiastic way over lunch
Must do !
Great once we got there .
Reported to Radisson Blu as directed and redirected to Scandic hotel, when bus arrived we were not on list.
We also met the following day 2 other couples who had the same experience.
Be warned when booking, but as I say a fantastic trip once on it.
There seemed to be a mix up with my reindeer booking, and I'm not sure i actually ended up on the exact tour i booked as there are several places offering reindeer experiences around Tromso. However, when i actually arrived at the reindeer place i had booked, it was a great experience, we had a free 1- 1.5 hour to spend in the field area with the reindeer, feeding them and taking pictures. We had a nice soup meal in the lavu and heard about the Sami culture and people. My 'sleigh ride' was only once round a circular circuit, which is why i'm not sure that this was supposed to be the actual experience i booked. I don't think i was the only person throughout the week that seemed to have a bit of a mix up with which reindeer tour they were supposed to be on.
Overall it was a worthwhile trip, the reindeer were great.
