What To Expect

Your day of sightseeing in Southwest Mauritius begins with pickup at you lodging. Board a comfortable tour vehicle with your guide and tour group, then set off for your first stop, Floreal. Visit some handcraft workshops, a great place to pick up souvenirs from your trip and see what types of crafts and handmade goods are made on the island.

Continue to Trou aux Cerf, a massive volcanic crater that measures 656 feet (200m) across and 279 feet (85m) deep. From the edge of the crater, you can see panoramic views of Mare aux Vacoas, Rose Hill and Cureipipe.

Visit Grand Bassin, home to a Hindu Temple and a surrounding sacred lake. This temple is the destination of the Maha Shivaretr, a yearly pilgrimage. Depart for Black River Gorges Natural Park, where you'll visit the Alexandra Fall and get views over the southern portion of the island. From Glack River Gorges Waterfall, snap photos of views over western Mauritius.

Stop for a rum tasting at the Rhumerie de Chamarel, a distillery that makes Mauritius' native rum, then continue to the nearby Chamarel Waterfall and the 7 Colored Earth, one of the islands most famous sights.

Finish your tour with drop-off back at your hotel.

Saw the sites but little engagement with your guide
Steven_C, Jan 2023
While this tour took us to all the major sites I was expecting more than a glorified grand prix racing taxi service. When I book a tour I expect the driver to get out of the car and explain things instead of just telling us where he will meet us when we are done looking at something.
Awesome day
Kerry_G, Jan 2023
We had a fabulous day, our driver and guide Direm sorry if that’s spelt wrong, he was very knowledgable and a lovely guy We enjoyed the whole day and I can say this is worth every penny I learnt so much and really feel like I seen the best of the south west of the island Well worth it I would and have recommended this tour to people in our hotel since we arrived back
Beautiful day trip

It was a very beautiful day trip along the southwest of mauritius! Anish was a very professional tour guid, we thank him very very much for his explanations and conversations. We will recommend this tour to our family and friend.
loved that it was just us...
Kate_S, Dec 2022
loved that it was just us & our guide who was great once he got going ! one slight criticism - this is the first tour in which we were not given bottled water
Don’t miss out!
Maggie_H, Dec 2022
Great guide, thank you Ashley. Lots of variation on this trip from forests to waterfalls to Hindu temples & delicious rum tasting. Lunch was special too.

Calum_C, Nov 2022
Went on this tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. A great mixture of culture and the beauty of nature. Mauritius truly is an island paradise. Our guide Anish was awesome. Full of knowledge and a great guy to chat with. We recommend him as he is great. Thanks again Anish
Great tour
Rohan_G, Nov 2022
We were picked by our driver Avinash. Along with us there was nice couple from Netherland. We first went to Ship building factory which is nice. Then we went to Volcanic crater which is a typical touristic point and average. Then we went the Ganga talav and Hindu temple which was nice. After that we went for lunch to a Zulu restaurant. The food was average. Then we went to Rum testing. IT was packed and we could not get the property guide so our driver shown us the process and the rum testing. We bough few rum bottles. Then we went to waterfall and seven colored sand which was nice. Overall nice tour.
Excellent tour, a must do!

SW trip on Mauritius
Martin_G, Oct 2022
Good all round trip visiting some of the key attractions in SW Mauritius. After the visiting wooden ship retail outlet and cashmere shop we headed out first to Trois aux Cerfs the extinct volcanic crater great views over the island as well Grand Bassin followed next very interesting Hindu shrines / temple / statues/ holy lake Black River Gorge viewpoint - spectacular view Chamarel waterfall came next and also the 7 coloured earths. Final visit was to the Chamarel rum distillery set in exotic grounds with a tour and tasting Overall the experience of a long days travel was positive - the places visited provided interest and culture about Mauritius. Our guide provided limited input at some of the places but was enthusiastic about the Hindu place of pilgrimage and was excellent in the minibus regards the island. Huge disappointment was the included lunch chicken and chips with poor quality ice cream - not very Mauritanian

Taxi service only, not a guided tour. very disappointed!
Pearl_A, Sep 2022
This is not a guided tour. It was like a taxi service where the driver took as to places as mentioned in the itinerary. He will just mention where the next drop off would be and what to do, then he will just wait outside. Nothing like a proper guided tour with some information of the place or whatsoever. The driver (Yash) barely interacted with us. It may be worth the money since it’s private with no other passengers and the long distances to cover the places. Other than not, I did not enjoy this package, I won’t recommend. Unless you want a driver only, then you may consider it.
Best part of our trip!
Ashton_L, Aug 2022
Amazing!! We had a private tour with Sooray and he was brilliant. He knew so much about everything from plants/animals/history of Mauritius. We really learnt so much and can’t thank him enough! We saw so much, and feeding wild monkeys was the highlight.
Great tour

Fab day!
Alina_E, Jun 2022
Our tour guide / driver was lovely and had tons of local knowledge which he shared with us. Highlight of the tour was definitely Seven Coloured Earths. Breathtaking. Had a stop for lunch at a roadside cafe, best samosas I’ve ever had and the most amazing papaya pickles. I was given some in a little container to take with me! Only drawback was the speed it all took; there was a lot to pack in one day so didn’t get to spend much time in one place. Perhaps less is more?
Perfect tour of the southwest, excellent driver Dhiren
Kishan_L, Jun 2022
This was a fantastic one day tour of the south west of Mauritius. We had a lovely driver, Dhiren who was smart, professional wel spoken, polite, knowledgeable and extremely hospitable. The tour began from our hotel in the north and we drove to the south, accompanied by a descriptive overview of Mauritian culture and general knowledge. The national parks were beautiful , the seven earths, waterfalls and the lunch was terrific. Grand basin was very special for us as Hindus. Overall we cannot thank Dhiren enough for a fantastic day out. We also ate the local Dahl Puri and fried bhajiya, which was great! We also ended up booking a further dolphin swimming tour and airport transfers with Ecoholidays Mauritius due to the good price and excellent reliable service.
Perfect - best package out there
FREDDIE_F, Jun 2022
Absolutely fantastic day. So many sites visited. Excellent guide - Nice to have a private tour. Highly recommended. Worth every cent
13 stops: every one a winner

Sandys was such a friendly and knowledgeable guide-really made the day! We especially loved the Chamarel district, including the Rum factory!
Holiday highlight
Steven_H, Mar 2022
Despite the weather trying to turn on us a couple of times, this was easily a highlight of our whole week, seeing all the biggest attractions of South West Mauritius. A very special mention to our guide Sandesh, who was funny, informative, and always personable - we couldn't have asked for a better guide. He was happy to stop wherever we liked to take pictures and gave us tons of history on the island, its inhabitants, and its cultures. Some people might call the lunch stop small and basic, but personally I thought it was a great opportunity to support a local business. The 7 coloured earth area may be small, but I assure you it is well worth the trip. Be sure to bring your camera and plenty of money for the shopping. There will be something that catches your eye in all of the 4 shops along the way. And if you like rum at all, the distillery will be the perfect spot for you.
Saw a lot, however didn't feel rushed
Peter_B, Nov 2021
Got picked up on time by a nice gentleman in a clean car. A long drive through the countryside to our first destination. There were quite a few stops planned for the day. We took in all the sights of South West mauritius. Never felt rushed and Included a tasty lunch in a roadside cafe. Our guide was the perfect host.
Great day overall
Johann_G, Nov 2021
We had a brilliant guide, comfy car, amazing places to see and experience but lunch was disappointing and the speed at which it was served and judging by other customers eating there and their reactions we weren’t the only ones disappointed. If we can change the lunch spot we would definitely recommend this tour.
