Traveler Tips

To give you more time in the cenote, I recommend starting the day wearing your swimsuit under your clothes so it takes less time to change.
And the cenote stop is first, so save some time and wear your suit out.
Bring some extra cash for lockers at the cenote and for the Mayan handmade items at the lunch spot you stop at.

If you’re looking for a whole day of tourguides trying to pressure you into buying all kinds of things in a crammed bus where you skip some of the sights & don’t get what you’ve paid for (like free water), then I highly recommend taking a tour with this operator / Gonzalo

It was ok, not great
Emma_L, Feb 2023
Before the trip I did read the reviews so would recommend you do this. Lunch was exceptionally early and not a great amount of options, no fruit or pudding as promised either. I enjoyed the trip mainly to see Chichen Itza and the cenote, the rest of the day was pointless and dragged out. Sadly even though the tour guide on the bus tried, it felt very one sided as he spent more effort speaking in Spanish than English, I was greatful for the solely speaking English guide at Chichen Itza!

Thank you very much for your comments, we will take all the recommendations seriously and we will take action to improve the experience.
10/10 would recommend

The tour guides were amazing and so friendly. My sister and I had the best day! The history of the Mayan people was something I never learnt about at school and was so fascinating!

Dear Tay, Thank you so much for your review, we really appreciate your time and feedback. We are so happy to read about your experience, you had a great time, which is the most important to us! Kind regards
An OK trip - chichen itza makes it just about worth it
Briana_M, Feb 2023
Overall the trip was ok and I think the quality represents the relatively cheap price for such a long tour. Chichen Itza was obviously incredible to see and the tour gives you just the right amount of time there (an hour tour and an hour to take photos, get a drink etc). However overall we didn't find the tour that enjoyable with unenthusiastic guides, products being pushed on us to buy, hidden costs and a rushed cenote swim. From the very start the Tulum pick up point was quite chaotic and stressful with lots of buses picking up and names just being shouted. We were told to be there for a 9.40 departure so arrived early at 9.30 and ended up waiting until 10.40 before leaving with little information. Each person paying the added tax to the guide also meant more time waiting - could this not be added into the ticket price to save time? It was hot waiting and added to an already long day. The lunch stop also included a lot of being sold stuff - we felt we were having the 'hard sell' on lots of products (name necklaces, alcogol bottles with our picture printed on, healing stones etc) and lost about an hour of the day to being talked through products and having free time in the shop. The lunch however was very good. The cenote stop was beautiful but was very rushed with only about 20/30 minutes to swim. You also have to pay for a locker and mandatory life jacket. The town you stop in on the way back is very beautiful and was genuinely nice to see.
Generic mass tour
Van_N, Feb 2023
The trip was much longer than expected. We were picked up at 9:40. I thought we’d be back in Tulum by 4-5 pm. But we didn’t get back until 8:15 pm. Our toddler was exhausted and angry. The tour guide was not very clear about certain logistics like whether drinks were included with lunch. They had an extra stop in Valladolid for 30 mins. There wasn’t much you could do at that point. I would rather have got back sooner. It was a very big tour where they tried to sell us stuff like obsidian rocks and Mayan liquor bottle with our picture on it. Very cheesy and not our style.
Response from Host, Feb 2023
Thank you very much for sharing your experience, the public tour could be longer mainly due to all the traffic on highways because our government is building a train. We will keep our attention on the guide's instructions and their sales pitch.
Great-ish
Elizabeth_G, Jan 2023
We were supposed to see Chichen Itza but due to a strike we went to another ruin called Ek Balam, which was great. I'm glad we were rerouted to Ek Balam as were were able to climb to the top for a great view, plus hearing about the history was fascinating. However, the tip overall was way. too. long. There were few options for shorter duration tours and this one worked for our schedule. The first stop was for lunch and a gift shop area for Mayan goods. It was fine and I know they have to make money to support their causes somehow, but it was fairly intense and pressured salesmanship. We did buy a couple of things but, we had enough when they passed out a mayan liquor bottle to all people on the tour with each family picture on it after hearing more about it and the culture. We were then told it was only $23. We elected not to buy it, but it felt shady and unpleasant. We went to a Cenote and the town of Valladolid very briefly. Both were enjoyable but too short. Most of the time was spent on a bus. There were also additional costs to the already fairly expensive tour - tickets to get into Chichen Itza which we did not go to due to the strike, rental fee for required life vests and storage locker at the Cenote prior to swimming. Just include it in the overall cost even if you need to increase the tour cost. It was annoying. Lastly, the tour guides knew their history, culture and were very entertaining. They were great and our bus driver was also great, safe and friendly. I'm glad we got to see a bit of Mayan culture, history and the area, but it was tainted with more icky feelings than needed.
Response from Host, Feb 2023
Thank you very much for writing we do apologize due the change in the archeological zone, this was mainly due to the strike, the archeological zones have reopened already and the Chichen Itza itinerary is already changed
Tourist scam
arianestaubin, Dec 2022
The tour schedule were not followed. The tour is supposed to include a visit of Valladolid = Only 30 minutes allowed to go get some food for the ride back to the hotel. Plus, we ended the day with the cenotes = no more sun in the cenote = dark water. Tour guide avises us not to buy from sellers at Chichen Itza because they are “illegal “sellers + have “fraud merch” = not true !!!! He said that so we would buy from a previous stop at high price (the same items …)
Response from Host, Dec 2022
We are really ashamed about the experience on this tour, we are reviewing the itinerary on your tour date in order to verify the reason for the recommendations from the guide to buy souvenirs there. The stop to Valladolid is very short, we are not able to stay more time in the central park.
Trip was fine but I wouldn't recommend
Sebastian_M, Dec 2022
Chichen Itzá and the Cenote were amazing. However, the tour guides themselves were rude and their English was not very understandable when giving the tour (which was in English). Furthermore, the tour stopped at a tourist trap where the guides attempted to sell us on "medicinal cleanses" and knick knack souvenirs. We spent so much unnecessary time here that we didn't have time for dinner. As this is a full day tour, no dinner after being in the hot jungle was a huge turn off from recommending this to others. Other gripes include the tour not being upfront about extra costs for "taxes" that were payable to the tour guides in dollars (not pesos). Seems fishy that a Mexican tax would be paid in dollars directly to the tour guides.
Great value for money. A trip we will never forget!
Sasha_J, Nov 2022
To hear the incredible stories of a time gone by. Valuable cultural history that was told brilliantly.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Dear Sasha, Thank you, as a new of the Seven Wonders of the World Chichen Itza is definately a must do in Cancun.
Terrible!
Derwin_G, Nov 2022
The drivers were pushy, rude and dishonest. Also refused to give me my change until I insisted. Even though I paid for an inclusive service they tried to avoid supplying the full service. They yelled at the riders several times. When reported the response was dismissive. Bad experience. Will never use this service again.

A beautiful historic tour
Celeste_A, Nov 2022
The Chichen Itza is a must see and our tour guide, Jesus, gave us great insight about the Mayan people on the way. As a well educated person of Mayan descent, Jesus provided meaning about the Chichen Itza and the structures and artwork inside. The journey there was quite comfortable and they stopped for a delicious lunch at a Mayan village on the way. After visiting the Chichen Itza we had another stop with a refreshing soak in a beautiful cenote. Our last stop was a short visit in Valladolid, a charming city built over Mayan ruins which were visible underneath the newer construction. The ride was very comfortable and they provided us water, beer and tequila on the way back. I highly recommend this tour!
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Dear Celeste, Thank you for sharing this amazing feedback, we love it. Your experience is the most important to us and this means a lot. Jesus is an amazing tour guide, thank you for mentioning him. We are glad and grateful for this, for sure we hope to see you soon! Kind regards
Extremely long and not entirely honest.
Taylor_M, Nov 2022
The experience was not entirely what was indicated in all travel materials. Firstly there were two unannounced detours which were never disclosed at any point, one of which was an hour. Secondly the list of what you needed was significantly lacking.

Fun!
Farrah_O, Oct 2022
Well at the beginning we had a few bumps. When booking the tour, the rep advise us that he would add our hotel to the pickup location. If you staying in Tulum, everything is about 30- 1 hour away. Once we were able to find transportation and get to the pickup spot things turned around for the better. The tour is literally all day! I wished we had more time at the cenote, but all in all the tour was pretty fun. The food could have been a little better. We got some good deals on the souvenirs. The pyramid was really cool. It was very hot and the tour guide talked a little too much. But it was something to experience.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Dear Farrah, so glad that the small inconveniences at the beginning could be resolved and it turned out to be a good experience, our customers joy is a priority to us.

Definitely worth the trip!
Anthony_L, Aug 2022
The tour is an all day tour, the bus ride is a bit long so bring water(I recommend freezing your water bottle the night before), snacks, a hat and sunblock! The tour was well ran and Jesus was very informative. I would definitely recommend this tour. The cenote was beautiful and Chichen Itzá was amazing, pictures do not do them justice! Also the vendors inside Chichen Itzá had the best souvenir prices through out the whole tour.
Response from Host, Aug 2022
Dear Anthony, Thank you so much for your review, we really appreciate your time and feedback, this is very helpful for us, and we agreed Jesus has a lot of Mayan culture knowledge and Chichen-itzá is a must! Kind regards
A Bday to remember

Think twice - Chichen Itza is amazing, but the tour …
Maximilian_K, Aug 2022
If I had to sum it up in one word: awful. You will spend 4 hours experiencing the longest informercial in order to even get to the place of why you actually booked the tour … to see Chichen Itza. The goal of the tour is clear: get as much of your money as possible in every shape and form. It’s a carefully curated story from the vendors you are going to see and what they will sell you. Nor the least they will aim to sneak more money out of your wallet every chance they get - whether it is the surprise gift (a random photo taken at the restaurant of you), where they then come on the bus with a small bottle of god knows what with a picture on it as a “gift”, which is then asked for you to just give USD 20 in return (what a gift). Or the not allowed to take any drinks that you may have packed at the lunch place … because of course they need you to buy the x5 as priced drinks they sell (and you can be reassured they get a cut of this - since every group walks “tagged” around with a number sticker to your chest … although they try to convince you it’s for your own safety). You spend more time being sold to than actually seeing anything. And in terms of the information provided, you spend your time listening to cringy jokes that are just mixed into the selling of anything and everything. There was about 10 minutes of useful info that was actually provided out of the whole day. I understand these tours are “cheaper” as they try to sell you on other stuff along the day, but never seen anything like it - spending most of your valuable vacation time on things that are just simply put a waste of time. Oh and did I mention that at the end an “optional tip” to this wonderful tour is very much delivered in a long speech as must and you should at least tip generously (not the little amount you give to restaurants tip) - and they make sure to put you point blank as you have to hand to them as you step out of the bus (feels truly “optional”). And when it comes to the timing spend - the Cenote is way too short: 1 hour to get into the place (lines waiting), get changed, jump in (enjoy… No time for that), get changed, go back to the bus. Nor do you have time when in the local town for food/ snacks, as you have 30 mins and the avg. wait time was 20-30 at each stand … so good luck making that. The only positives I can state: the bus driver drove well and actually seemed nice. And irrespective of the tour, of course Chichen Itza is beautiful no matter what - hence the magical one star that remains. I have spend my time writing above to help you avoid this experience - I ain’t getting my money or time back… so take it for what you will, but you at least been made aware of it beforehand.
Response from Host, Aug 2022
Thank you very much for this complete feedback, we are really shamed for not reaching your expectations we are considering all the points and we are making and special effort to avoid this kind of comments or type of service in the near future, especially to avoid to make this tour as a shopping tour to Chichen Itza. We are taking measures.

Highlight of Trip
Anessa_D, Jul 2022
I want to first shout out our tour guides Rhett and Julius who were excellent and also the driver Carlos! They shared great historical info and helped make the trip so light and fun from the start. It was awesome getting to check out the different stops on the tour, especially Chichen Itza and the cenote. I wish we would have gotten more time at the cenote but the was the only small complaint I had of the tour. This tour was definitely the highlight of our trip. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Response from Host, Jul 2022
Dear Anissa, Thank you for sharing this amazing feedback on this review, Rhett, Julius and Carlos are more than glad!! Your experience is the most important for us. We are glad and grateful for this, for sure we hope to see you soon! Kind regards
