Experience the astronomical effects of light and shade on El Castillo, aka the Temple of Kukulkan, during the fall equinox. Take part in this phenomenal event and watch the descent of Kukulkan, or the Feathered Serpent, down the pyramid steps. After a tour of the World Heritage site, go for a swim in X-Cajum Cenote and have lunch in Valladolid.
Note: This tour only runs from September 20–22.
  • Chichen Itza fall equinox tour with a certified guide
  • See a rare natural phenomenon at the Temple of Kukulkan
  • Swim in X-Cajum Cenote and take part in a Maya purification ceremony
  • Visit a Maya village and colonial Valladolid
  • Breakfast box, lunch buffet, and drinks
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off in Cancun and the Riviera Maya
  • Seasonal offer: September 20–22
After hotel pickup from Cancun and the Riviera Maya, travel by coach to the pre-Columbian city of Chichen Itza. You're served a continental breakfast box with unlimited beer, water, and soda available on board.
On arrival, a certified guide will show you around the UNESCO World Heritage site and provide a thorough explanation of the ancient Maya culture. Learn about its government, religion, rituals, and astronomical achievements as you wander past archaeological structures. Upon reaching the Temple of Kukulkan (El Castillo), marvel at the optical effects of the Feathered Serpent slithering down the pyramid staircase, created during the spring and fall equinoxes.
After your visit at Chichen Itza, head to X-Cajum Cenote, a collapsed limestone sinkhole for a refreshing swim (life jacket available). Learn about these sources of fresh water on the Yucatán Peninsula, considered to be portals to the Maya underworld. Take part in a Maya purification ceremony and visit the village of Aldea Maya.
Then head to the colonial town of Valladolid, a designated Pueblo Mágico. You'll have 20 minutes to explore the historical city founded in 1543. Sit down for a buffet lunch of traditional and regional foods before your tour ends with hotel drop-off.

This was a mixed experience. Viator contracted the tour to Mayabtravel. Not top notch. Tour guide begrudgingly spoke English and stopped any translation while on the bus. Chichen Itza was/is amazing and the Cenote was fun. However, minimal explanation and tour at chichen itza. Too much attention and time at shopping area. The guide can really make or break a tour.
