What You Can Expect

Gozo Day Trip from Malta Including Ggantija Temples

Gozo Day Trip from Malta

Begin with pickup from your Malta hotel (selected hotels only), and then travel in a climate-controlled coach to the port. Here, board a ferry for the crossing to the pretty island of Gozo.

On arrival, travel south to Xagħra by coach, where the majestic Ġgantija Temples await you. These UNESCO World Heritage–listed temples are among the oldest megalithic monuments in the world, predating even the Giza pyramids in Egypt and England’s Stonehenge.

Explore the site with your guide and hear about the temples’ history as you wander. Many researchers believe that this site was dedicated to the Great Earth Mother, a goddess of fertility.

Continue to Xlendi Bay, an inlet encased by cliffs, before heading to Gozo’s capital of Victoria. Stop for lunch and a glass of wine at a local restaurant before visiting the hilltop citadel.

When the time comes, return to the port and catch the ferry back to Malta. Your tour ends with a hotel drop-off.

Absolutely worth taking the day and spending it on Gozo. Even though its a small island, its different from the main Malta - its green and a still a bit wild.

Well organised tour from hotel pickup to delivery back. The tour guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable.
The lunch was simple but nice, though slightly rushed. It was nice to meet other people on the tour from different parts of the world.

Had been looking forward to this one for a long time. Our guide, Danielle was superb--jsut the right amount of culture, history and info about daily life. Loved that she did not speculate abut the temples, but told us what archeologists thik and why. Good that we went ot he musuem in Malta first, enhanced our understanding , but she gave enough info so that even without that exgtra info, one could appreciate the site. Older than pyrtamids! Older than stonehenge! really worth seeing. Ggantija temples
The famous azure window no longer exists, but the site of its former glory is still lovely to see--and the salt in the puddles on the stones--amazing.. INteresting that there are so mnay fossils in the rocks but modern day Malta is bereft of shells on its rocky beaches. Vacationing on an island I went home without any shells! First time. But I did take a picture of a fossil sand dollar in the rocks. Ok lunch, jsut as described in the info--tehre was a choice of fish or chicken. I chose fish--always a good choice on Malta.
We went to a craft village--very small and there were so many food items as well!!!! Found some wonderful thyme honey for which Gozo is known. Also great honey and diried organically grown and wild herbs in shops in Rabat capitol of Gozo
This trip is not to be missed if you go to Malta. It does take the engtire day--early pick up, late reutrn, around 7 pm, including the fery ride. Gozo is quieter than the main island and offers a window into agriculture and the way life was before Malta mainland was overbuilt weith high structures, On the way up and back you will pass through St Luien, St Paul, SLiema, and other overbuilt bastions of British tourism--high rises that make the place look like anywhere else in the world..and you will be glad you saw Gozo where the limnestone houses are bult as they were years ago and people still leave their keys in the door all day long

Thos was a fantastic tour! I was wary of the early pickup because we arrived at 2am the morning of the tour...but we had a great time. Pickup was good. The ferry ride was enjoyable. Danielle was our tour guide - apart from being a really nice person and very knowledgeable of the sites and history, she was always on top of who was in her group and made sure everybody was comfortable. She answered everybody's questions and always gave us time to wander around alone. My partner and I think this was the best part of our holiday and we did it on the first day. Definitely do this!
