Really brought the history to life! The drama, the historical research, well worth an hour and a half of your time

Guide in character

Great walk around Gastown. Our guide, Cole, was in character as a person who had lived in Gastown. Smallpox, fires, gold rush, and more.
How Vancouver grew up to be a big city.
WilliamTelwak, Jun 2022
The story teller told a wonderful tail of how the town evolved and grew. Walked us around back alleys which gave believability to all truths and embellishments.
Like a play through the city

Alison was good fun and played her character well as she introduced us to the history of Gastown. The old photos were a bonus!
Average at best, not worth the 2hrs
Martin_L, Jun 2022
It's ok, the woman who was taken the tour was nice and tried to make it interesting. However, it's obviously hard to make a 2hr tour out of a very simple story. You walk from location to location to location for a 5 min description of events. That could of been done at the other location. We didn't stay till the end of the tour. It's not a experience I would recommend. This could be done in 45mins and be interesting and more time appropriate.
Response from Host, Jun 2022
Hi Martin, I'm sorry to hear the Lost Souls of Gastown wasn't what you expected. I will admit to being a bit surprised about a couple of your comments. I've never before heard the feedback that it's a very simple story. The story charts the life of someone who lived through early Gastown history -- from family tragedy to escaping the Great Fire to heading to the Klondike Goldrush to her involvement in one of the city's most notorious unsolved murders, with plenty of gothic tales along the way of strange deaths and intrigue. Usually the feedback about the experience content is really positive. However I respect your opinion and appreciate you sharing your thoughts. And just a comment on the locations the tour visits -- it takes in the Gastown Steam Clock, Water Street, Hudson House, the old Fire Station, the CPR railyards, Maple Tree Square, and Gaoler's Mews -- definitely all the must-see locations in Gastown. But then if you left the tour after 45 minutes then you would have missed most of these sadly. I'd like to suggest you check out another of our walking tours, which are delivered in a more traditional format. They might be more up your street. We have the Forbidden Vancouver Tour that explores prohibition history of the early 20th century, the Dark Secrets of Stanley Park (tales of crime, corruption and colonization) and the Really Gay History Tour, which speaks for itself! All the best and I hope you enjoyed your stay in Vancouver. Will
Such a fun tour

Eric was a fantastic guide who was passionate, entertaining, and knowledgeable. The rainy night couldn't detract from the complete fun that was this tour. A great way to learn about Gastown with an element of live theater. Fun, affordable, and totally worth the experience!
