Wonderful gardens. Excellent bus driver/narrator. 2 thumbs up!
Flying by seaplane is the only way to go to Victoria for a day trip. Catch an early flight and get to Victoria with plenty of time to catch the bus to Butchart Gardens. You will have plenty of time at the gardens and then return to Victoria for sightseeing and on weekends plenty of entertainment.
Be careful to note where the seaplane facility is located as it can be a bit confusing to locate if you are not familiar with the harbor in Vancouver
This was one of the HIGHLIGHTS of my trip to Vancouver - the seaplane flight to Victoria! What a great way to travel, quickly - why spend hours on a boat when you can get there in 45 minutes! It was awesome taking off on the water and then landing on the water and floating in to the docking area! Highly recommend!
I would highly recommend the tour, it is worth every dollar!

Seaplane to Victoria is the only way to go. Loved it! Upon landing it was easy to find our land transport to take us to the butterfly farm - which is fantastic and really worth a visit -and then onto Butchart Gardens. This place is simply beautiful, no other words. Victoria itself is a charming place, and we thorougly enjoyed looking around there. It was a good independent tour and we highly recommend this!
My husband and I decided to take the seaplane to and from Victoria rather than the ferry to reduce travel time. Everything was very well organized. We booked the 9am flight and upon arrival in Victoria it was a short walk to get the bus to Butchart Gardens. We had a quick stop at the Butterfly House on the way which was worth the visit. Spent a few hours at the Butchart Gardens which are amazing and also paid extra to do the boat trip once we got there which we also enjoyed. Took the bus back to Victoria and had a couple of hours there in the afternoon to check out the wharf area and wander around before flying back on the 6pm flight. When I booked I requested a 5.30 or 6pm flight and we were on the 6pm which gave us plenty of time to fit everything in. A fantastic day trip which we would highly recommend.

I decided to take the sea plane both ways instead of taking the ferry back to maximize on time. The only issue that I had with this is that I was put on a 4:30 flight back as later flights were sold out. I didn't know this until the day of. That was a bummer because I really would have liked more time in Victoria so just check your times before booking this trip. The gardens are magnificent. I'm really glad I went. I did not do the Butterfly Garden because I didn't have time. It's takes 45 mins- 1 hr to get to Butchart once you land in Victoria so 2 hours of your day is just in travel once you finally get to there. Overall, I can't recommend this tour enough. It was such an awesome experience.
Nice smooth flight, pilots excellent, loved the Butchard Gardens, no problems with transport, would also highly recommend the Butterfly
Farm, Victoria Island very pretty must see for a day out of Vancouver.
Don't wear a big coat or take a lot of stuff, it was VERY close quarters and loud. Head phones with music would have been really nice since looking out the window at the beautiful scenery was awesome!
It would have been perfect if not for the smoke ruining any chance of seeing anything in the distance. We will just have to visi again for those mountain views! So regretful and sorry for those families living near the fires.
Everyone at the seaplane depot were friendly and helpful. The pilot was great. We will do this again!
Upon booking this trip I wanted to be sure we were on a later return flight so we had more time at the gardens. I was surprised to see that we could book a departure time but not a return time so I called Viator. The agent assured me she could book a later time and then insisted that she handle the booking over the phone. Having no other way to verify the booking times I went with her booking. She told me we would depart on the 9am and return on the 6:30 flight, and that they would pick us up at our downtown hotel. Trying to verify that the details were correct, she stated she would pledge her job on it. When I got the email it said nothing about hotel pickup and said we were returning on the 5:30 not the 6:30 flight. Frustrated I called the seaplane company directly and they said the 6:30 was sold out and that there was no hotel pickup. I was glad I called. The Harbour Air representative was wonderful and reassuring and booked us on the 6:00pm flight since the 6:30 was full. That was the end of the negativity.
Everything else was wonderful. The air terminal was wonderful with comfortable seating, very polite and helpful staff, free coffee, etc. while we waited. Once we boarded the seats are VERY small and hardly any room to move or fasten a seat belt, but the staff was great, on this small twin engine plane that held about 15 people . While it was loud like most such small planes, but you can avoid most of the noise by sitting further back no assigned seats. There was only slight bumpiness on takeoff and the landing was as smooth as any wheeled landing in my life, and I am a very frequent flyer. The plane flew at only about 2,000 feet so you had a beautiful view on the 35 minute flight and landed in the heart of downtown Victoria.
The stop for the bus large commercial bus with CVS Tours on it, was about a block from the plane and in front of the Empress hotel and easy to find. The ride to the gardens was about 30 more minutes and the Harbour Air representative had given accurate and careful instructions on the tickets, tours, bus times, etc.
We did not get off at the Butterfly gardens since I have seen several similar ones in the past and went straight to Butchart Gardens. Then the magic began. The gardens were as beautiful as any flower garden I have seen anywhere in the world, and meticulously kept. The gardeners told us they change the flowers constantly and even change out the bulbs annually. The weather was great and the crowds of people were steady all day. We arrived about 10:30 and ate lunch in their Dining Room the more formal of the 2 places to eat and the views and the service were fantastic. We started the day with the garden in the quarry which was spectacular and ended in the Japanese garden, but toured everything. Don't miss the dancing fountains at the back of the quarry, or the rose garden.
The return bus was on time as were the flights and the day was fantastic flying both ways. On the return flight we spoke to a group that took the ferry over and the plane back and said they were glad not to be on the ferry since it took so long. Having read previous reviews of others about the ferry vs seaplane, we were very glad to be on the plane on the way back after a long day of walking and sightseeing. Apart from the initial booking issues, the trip was a must do and we highly recommend it.
