What You Can Expect

Musica a Palazzo 'Traveling Opera' Performance in Venice

Witness an enchanting opera in an intimate palazzo setting

The renowned performers of Musica a Palazzo carry on the historic tradition of traveling opera with unique, intimate performances in the luxurious surroundings of Venice’s Palazzo Barbarigo Minotto. The elegant salons of this 15th-century palace have been restored to their original splendor and provide a historic backdrop for scenes from Italian operatic classics. Choose from adapted versions of The Barber of Seville, La Traviata or Rigoletto (see Itinerary below for details).

On the night of the performance, make your way to the historic palazzo in central Venice, which overlooks the Grand Canal. Upon arrival, you’ll have the option to purchase a libretto to read a translation of the words in your selected opera. Then, take your seat among the small audience and admire the ornate surroundings and period furnishings bathed in candlelight. When the show begins, you’ll be immersed in the sights and sounds of arias, duets, and live accompaniment as the performers enact scenes just feet or meters from where you sit.

Instead of a traditional set change, you will get up and move to a different salon along with the ensemble with each new scene or act. This lends an interactive element to the show and allows you to explore several different salons. Toast your evening out with a complimentary glass of Prosecco, juice, or soda during one of two brief intermissions. At the end of the 2-hour experience, you’ll have a chance to buy a CD or DVD of the opera.

Incredible experience . I felt part of the opera as I had the singers and muscians very close to me. The fact that each act of the opera takes place in different rooms it and #39;s great as people can change seats and while in some acts you will be a bit far back, in other ones you get to be up close.

Fabulous and fun, worth the effort. But make sure you find the location early as it is not very well signposted, and it is in a private building.

Such a fun experience. Perfect to opera new comers as there isn't the stiffness of a large opera house. The protagonist are within touching distance and literally sing to you. With the baroque style rooms and the quartet who would just need to wear some white wigs you feel as having gone back in time.
We went to check out the location during the day while meandering through the many narrow streets of Venice and found it a bit tricky to find, as it's situated in a tiny alley with just the name engraved on a door bell. A hidden little treasure chest .
