What To Expect

The renowned performers of Musica a Palazzo carry on the historic tradition of traveling opera with unique, intimate performances in the luxurious surroundings of Venice’s Palazzo Barbarigo Minotto. The elegant salons of this 15th-century palace have been restored to their original splendor and provide a historic backdrop for scenes from Italian operatic classics. Choose from adapted versions of 'The Barber of Seville,' 'La Traviata,' or 'Rigoletto' (see Itinerary below for details).

On the night of the performance, make your way to the historic palazzo in central Venice, which overlooks the Grand Canal. Upon arrival, you have the option to purchase a libretto to read a translation of the words in your selected opera. Then, take your seat among the small audience and admire the ornate surroundings and period furnishings bathed in candlelight. When the show begins, you are immersed in the sights and sounds of arias, duets, and live accompaniment as the performers enact scenes near the place where you sit.

Instead of a traditional set change, get up and move to a different salon along with the ensemble with each new scene or act. This lends an interactive element to the show and allows you to explore several different salons. Toast your evening out with a glass of Prosecco, juice, or soda during one of two brief intermissions. At the end of the experience, you have a chance to buy a CD or DVD of the opera.

Went with my family including two teens. Tucked in the alley ways of Venice. The front entrance was not super grand from the first look of it, but gets better once you walk in. Nice setup, great performance. Highly recommend if you can spare couple hours while in Venice!

This was my first trip to Italy and to Venice. I have never been to an opera before. I recommend buying their program when you check in if you are a novice. It not only summarized each scene but had line by line translations for most of the performance. The setting was intimate. Three scenes were performed in three different rooms of a 15th century palace. You could feel the power of each performer. I am going to pursue attending an opera in an opera house because of this experience, but I fear nothing can match the smaller audience. The audience was so close to the performance that the musicians would include a couple members of the audience in the story line of the opera, and you felt that you were part of the experience

Because of outside forces beyond my control, a train delay due to an active police investigation is not enough to warrant a refund. Nor, is it enough to qualify for a re-scheduled ticket. Granted, notification of ticket policy is given beforehand, but the fact that there is no space for flexibility makes this a one star review. Consumer beware: God forbid someone should try to jump on the tracks before your train gets to Venice.

Great singers. Intimate surroundings with different rooms for each Act. Must see if you like music. A lot of fun finding the venue— see photos of walkway. It would be on my “to do again” list when we return with friends.

Absolutely fabulous performance. 3 encores for the performers. This was incredible experience in an old palace (1600s?) on the Grand Canal of Venice. They moved to 3 rooms, one for each act. The musicians and opera singers are A+. We saw La Traviata and can’t recommend enough!
