Begin your tour with a visit to St. Mark's Basilica, dedicated to Venice's patron saint and awash in golden mosaic tiles. Walk through the church to the Pala d'Oro (Golden Altar), one of the treasures inside the church, representing the work of generations of Venetian goldsmiths. Experts consider the altar one of the best examples of Byzantine goldsmith craftsmanship. Continue your tour with a brief walk to the Doge's Palace, or Palazzo Ducale, which is adjacent to St. Mark's Basilica. Admire the different architectural features on the exterior of the palace, with elements of the Byzantine, Gothic, and Renaissance eras. Learn about the rulers who once lived in and governed from the Doge's Palace when this was the center of the Venetian Empire. Our guide Hazel was great and knowledgeable. The headsets for the tour were really helpful. I would have liked to have spent a little longer in the prison section of the Doge’s Palace. Overall, it was a really great tour.
The guide kept us outside standing on the concrete too long before we were allowed to enter Doges Palace.
Also, the larger crowds made it hard to enjoy the tour to any extent although that was not the fault of Viator guide.
Great tour!!! we loved our tour guide-- we forgot his name, but he had medium brown hair, somewhat tall, thin frame, and spoke fast. However, he was awesome. We loved it! He flooded us with information that was very interesting and fun. I would definitely recommend to anyone that wants a great, fun informative tour about the Basilica and Doges Palace. Tour duration was just right. Thank you very much!
