It was not our first visit to San Marco, It proved worthwhile to do it with an expert guide who finally managed to put all infos into the right context. It was probably a mistake to do it on a Saturday though when the crowd was even more dense than usual.
But what else can you do than just awe...
The tour met promptly and we had and extremely knowledgeable guide who spoke great English. Gave us a lot of information and included a little humour too. Thoroughly enjoyable experience and would highly recommend it
The queue for St Mark's is constantly long in the summer, if you want to save time this is definitely the ticket to get. The guide was good and really helped you appreciated the beauty of the Basilica.
This tour was great! The guide was very knowledgeable and we got to see up close all the beautiful mosaics and gold leaf inside.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable. The problem was the heat, it was so hot and inside the Basilica it was like a steam room, no air . The Basilica was beautiful, but we really couldn't enjoy it because of the heat.
San Marco, of course, is magnificent and amazing to experience. Our guide was pleasant and well-informed -- but difficult to hear the radio system worked poorly, the heat was overwhelming, and the fact that this tour was a continuation of the previous tour of the Doge's Palace, which we weren't on, made for a somewhat disjointed experience for those of us who joined at San Marco. This could have been better done.
I found the guides not to be very organized. They did not have enough sound devices for everyone and we had to wait at least 30 minutes until they found more. It seemed that our guide was just running through the commentary without too much enthusiasm. Maybe it was burnout.
The biggest advantage of this tour is skipping the line. Although we enjoyed the tour, the audio/sound wasn't that great so you couldn't always hear the guide very clearly. It was still worth doing.
This tour could work its way up to 4 or 5 stars with some better organization and audio sets. There was so much standing around and waiting, I think waiting in the line would have taken the same amount of time. We basically jumped into a tour group that had just completed the Doge's Palace and was working its way into the Basilica. That guide and the group were running behind so we had to wait for them to make their way from the Palace to the Basilica. Out of the 5 tours we took on our trip to Italy, this was the only one that was coordinating multiple tours in different languages, all at the same time and it felt chaotic. The staff were nice so nothing against them.
The guide was great, I really liked her and she was very informative. It was a shame the audio sets were so bad, I felt like I missed some of information. Also, while I felt like it was obvious the Basilica would have a dress code, others were in the dark and totally caught of guard so perhaps this tour should include a friendly reminder that shoulders should be covered and nothing showing above the knees. Overall, I'm still glad we did this tour, I hope they take people's reviews into consideration and improve where needed.
First of all, it was 30 minutes late. By the time the operator was saying it was about to start, they discovered that the headset given to the majority was wrong, it resulted to another 10 minutes delay. By that time, everyone was already irritated, which was aggravated by the fact that there was a huge static in the headsets, and it was pretty hard to understand what the guide was saying. When we got inside the church, we were asked to sit for 30 minutes on a very boring lecture about the history of the church. And then we were led towards the exit with the guide talking about the intricacies of the floor about where the materials were coming from and after that we then proceeded to the exit. What a total rip-off! We didn't even go up the stairs and not even viewing the four horses inside the church! So different from the tour which I experienced 3 years ago from a freelance operator who made us walk around the church, explaining the details more clearly and in much animated fashion. This was the most horrible tour I've ever experienced with Viator
I did not love this tour. It was a bit unorganized. The people are not in blue shirts by the way they were in white so it was difficult for us to find them. They also we not very nice or informative. When we walked up they took a picture of the voucher and then handed me a red key chain with no further explanation. I followed other tour people to a person to get a head set and was still not given direction. The guide just started walking away with a flag without alerting any of us. We then stood and wait for instructions. I finally had to ask the guy what was going on and he told me to just wait right here for the english speaking guide. There were well over 25 people in our group, it was hard to hear and see everything as there were so many people inside the Basillica. It was a beautiful though I just wish it were better organized.
I took 10 Viator tours on my Europe trip, and this one was by far the worst. The guide barely spoke English and it seemed like she knew nothing about the history and importance of the Basilica.
oh dear. The only plus was skipping the queue. 20 minutes waiting for the guide to show up.Trouble with audios. Guide hard to understand. Group far too large. She was discribing things we couldnt see because of the number of people and by the time we shuffled through she was talking in your ear about some other piece of art or artifact. Beautiful building but would have enjoyed it more without this tour
