This was our first tour with Viator and, based on our experience, it will not be our last. This was a very good small group tour with only 14 people and included St. Marks Basilica, the Doges Palace and the New Prison. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and headsets were provided so that we could hear his commentary.

Our tour started with a walk across the square to St. Mark's Basilica. We had been there the day before for mass and we saw a very different perspective of St. Mark's during the tour. Our guide explained many of the features and artwork. We were also able to visit the upper level to see the original bronze horses and go outside for a different view of St. Mark's Square. The stop outside was timed so that we could see and hear the giant figures strike the hour on the bell. Be aware that the steps to the upper level are very steep and very narrow and it can be difficult to go up and down.

The next portion of the tour was the Doge's Palace. We visited the antechambers where people were forced to wait hours for an audience and the various chambers where meeting were held. One very interesting part of the tour was when the guide pointed out the difference between the original mineral based painted frescos and the later plant based painted additions. The mineral reds were still bright and vibrant while the plant based reds were badly faded. We then walked from the Doges Palace across the Bridge of Sighs to the New Prisons before our very enjoyable more than two hour tour ended.

I wasn't sure what to expect of this tour, but I was certainly looking forward to getting to know some history of these famous Venetian buildings. What can I can say about our tour guide Moses ? He was an utterly amazing host and I'm still reeling from the shock of how much information and history he was able to share with us. It was just so entertaining to hear all the stories, the players, the history !
I could have listened to these stories all day as it was so effortless thanks to Moses.
I'd totally recommend this tour for anyone interested in the history of these important buildings and I hope you're as lucky I was to get r get Moses as your guide !

Loved this tour. Moses our tour guide was so interesting and knowledgeable. We would never have noticed the specifics that he pointed out and would have missed out on so much of the history behind St Marks and the Doges Palace had we chosen to go it alone rather than on this tour. Walking was easily manageable and the pace was good. Highly recommend.

This had to be one of the best guided tours we have experienced, due solely to the knowledge and entertaining approach by our guide, Moses - he ensured that even the most boring history was imparted with fun, and although we had visited Venice previously we learned so much more about its history that it encouraged us to delve into more details after the tour.

An excellent tour with a great guide. It was January, so we didn't need the advantage of skip the line, but the whole thing was great from start to finish. Really highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this tour and our guide. For people considering juts buying tickets, you will miss out on so much by not having a well informed guide.

Sensational. Our guide was so knowledgeable and open to all questions. She would take plenty of time for photos, took some for us as well, and a stop for a coffee and rest room was great. So much to see and we got it all done in easy time. Do be early or on time for the tour as it's helpful to the whole group. The basilica and the palace is amazing and not to be missed. Do read all the documents and with all the security there is lines and checks but all rather quick. Don't bring back backs or large bags as they have to be stored and can't be taken in to the basilica, which holds the group up. Overall a fantastic experience.
