What You Can Expect

Venice Ghost and Legends Walking Tour

Hear strange tales about Venice's Bovolo Staircase on a ghost walking tour

After night falls on this atmospheric city, meet up with your guide near the famous Rialto Bridge. From there, journey through a labyrinth of narrow streets and deserted squares as your guide recounts tales of Venice’s haunted history. From the sacred to the profane, you’ll learn about the noble-blooded ghosts that wander the city’s grand palaces and the medieval child-killer Biasio, who was said to chop up little limbs and add them to his stews.

Visit the Gothic Fortuny Palace and beautiful Bovolo staircase — an architecturally impressive structure that conceals strange secrets in its spiraling stone archways. Learn about ancient cemeteries buried beneath the cobblestone streets and ponder the legends of fearsome sea creatures lurking in Venetian canals.

Step down to a secret passageway where forbidden lovers once met by torchlight (water levels permitting). Finally, let your imagination run wild in the shadowy Calle dei Assassini, once a popular haunt for hardened criminals and murderers and the site of many dark deeds. Your guide will lead you back to the Rialto Bridge after around 1.5 hours. From there, you are free to continue roaming the shadowy city on your own — if you dare!

Great tour with Cristina our guide, we really enjoyed hearing the secret history of Venice, seeing all the streets, alleys you never see, as you go off the beaten track and of course the ghostly stories too.

This is a great tour. There were only a few people on our tour, so that was a huge plus.

Fantastic experience! Our guide, Christine, was terrific with the right balance of a little scary/creepy and entertaining information. The group winds their way through some narrow, interesting side streets with the guide sharing stories from Venice's past and present. Seeing Venice the Rialto, Grand Canal and some of its side lanes at night with an engaged group, fabulous storyteller and slightly creepy ambiance was the perfect way to spend a night in Venice. This tour was one of the highlights of our trip!
