Veracruz Combo Tour: La Antigua, San Juan de Ulúa and Veracruz City Sightseeing

San Juan de Ulua

After morning hotel pickup by minivan in Veracruz, travel with your guide about 20 miles (30 km) up the coast to La Antigua. An early site of the Spanish conquest, La Antigua is a quaint town full of historical attractions. See the first Catholic church in the Americas, the house of the 16th-century Spanish conqueror Hernán Cortés, and La Casa del Cabildo (one of the oldest Spanish structures still standing in Mexico).

Next, back in Veracruz, explore San Juan de Ulúa, a 16th-century fortress perched along a peninsula jutting into the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoy the views of the water and inside the historical museum, learn about the complex’s former function as a presidential palace and a prison.

After breaking for lunch (own expense), begin your sightseeing tour of Veracruz. In the beautiful Zocalo, Veracruz’s main plaza, admire the Municipal Palace and the city’s 18th-century cathedral. Your guide also shows you the Postal and Telegraph buildings, Old Customs Building, the Santiago Bulwark (defense wall) and the train station.

Stroll along Veracruz's malecón to take in views of the Gulf of Mexico, and enjoy a drive through the neighboring port city Boca del Río to see its high-end hotels.

Your 5-hour tour ends with transport back to your hotel.

Excellent tour of the highlights of Veracruz and vicinity. Because of my spanish I was able to understand much more than my wife. The van driver was extremely knowledgeable but had very limited english. The translator had limited knowledge and limited translational skills.
