What You Can Expect

Alpine Panoramic Hallstatt Day Trip Tour from Vienna including Admont Abbey Visit

Admont Abbey

Meet your guide at your central Vienna hotel and set out on the scenic journey to Salzkammergut. Keep your camera to hand as you wind through the heart of the Austrian Alps and marvel at the panoramic mountain views.

Stop at Admont Abbey, one of Austria’s oldest abbeys, where you can admire the grand Baroque architecture and take a peek in the library – the largest monastic library in the world.

Pass through the UNESCO-listed landscapes of Salzkammergut en-route to Hallstatt village, and hear about the region’s historic significance and rich mining heritage from your guide. Then, set out on a walking tour and follow your guide along the pretty lakefront, past the medieval half-timbered buildings and through the lively Market Square.

Finally, visit the handicrafts center of Gmunden, a town perched on the banks of the Traunsee River and set against a dramatic backdrop of mountains. Snap photos of the Ort Castle, which appears to be floating in the center of the lake, then learn more about the town’s craft-making heritage as you browse the many shops and workshops. Perhaps pick up some unique hand-made souvenirs to remind you of your visit.

After a full day exploring the lake district, jump back on the bus for the return journey to Vienna and end your tour in the city center.

The day I took this tour it was rainy and a little chilly but the tour was still worthwhile. Hallstatt is a wonderfully charming little town and I enjoyed all the other stops included on the tour. I was mainly visiting Vienna and this was the one non-city tour I took just to keep it from being just city. It turned out to be an excellent choice. Tour guide was pleasant, knowledgeable and flexible. Very nice tour, recommended.

Great Trip to Hallstatt with our guide Anna. Beautiful ride throughout the countryside. The snow made it more magical than it already was. The Abbey was wonderful too. We also made a stop at the Schloss Ort Castle in Gmundenon our way back to Vienna. Absolutely beautiful. My husband and I love the quaint villages.

It was a very long trip, but I didn't feel tired at all, as along the way to Admont Abbey, the scenery was just fantastic.
Hallstatt is really picture perfect, you can really take very beautiful photos at every corner of the small town.
Highly recommended.

Loved this tour from start to finish, the guide was very knowledgeable about the places we visited as well as the surrounding areas. There was plenty of times were we got to stretch our legs from the coach and take in the surrounding areas views, coffee and use of the facilities. I would love to do this tour again some day.

I had wanted to visit Hallstatt for some time so this tour was a highlight of our holiday and was not disappointed On the way we visited Admont Abbey which is a Benedictine monastery and has the most amazing and huge baroque library I have ever seen There are pictures of this on the internet It contains some 200000 volumes of works some dating back to the 11th century and when I asked if people were allowed to see these works I was amazed to find they could and in some cases they allowed them to be taken home. From there we went on to Hallstatt where we had about 2 hours of free time which is enough to have lunch and see most of the village and take advantage of the photo opportunities of this beautiful place. It was a bit overcast but the village is beautiful and it was autumn so more colour. On the way back we were taken to a another palace at another lake. It was a very good day but quite long due to the distance we had to travel. The guide was good and very informative.

The tour was simply awesome! Great way To spend a day around breathtaking views and immense knowledge shared by our guide Anna. She was extremely patient, had great knowledge and great guide overall. The monastery library was a treat and Halstatt was an experience everyone must opt for in Austria!

What a picturesque little town! We went in January and it was so breathtakingly beautiful. The tour was bilingual which we didn't know- Russian and English. We booked the tour in English but happen to be fluent in Russian so we got the information in both languages. On our way to Halstatt, we stopped at Admont Abbey and it was stunning. We didn't spend too much time there but it was perfect to break up the trip. After walking the library, we enjoyed a little bit of time in the snow and had so much fun! The guide was Russian but spoke great English and was very knowledgable. Overall, it was a great day trip and we saw some of the most amazing views.
