Why Our Insiders Chose This Tour

The drive to Salzburg alone is spectacular, passing lakes and mountains, and stopping to eat and snap photos, including at Lake Mondsee. In Salzburg, you must try Mozartkugel, a chocolate praline filled with nougat and pistachio marzipan. Make sure you get the original by Fürst and not an imitation!

What You Can Expect

Salzburg Day Trip from Vienna

Vienna Super Saver: City Hop-on Hop-off and Salzburg Day Trip from Vienna

Your tour will begin with pickup from your central Vienna hotel or the State Opera. Meet your expert guide and hop aboard your coach to begin your day trip to Salzburg.

Soak up incredible views from the windows as you travel, passing the landscape of lakes and mountains where Emperor Franz Joseph and his family used to holiday. Pause at Lake Mondsee for photos before reaching Salzburg and enjoying some free time for lunch.

Afterward, explore the Old Town on a walking tour. Pass the Festival Hall, the Cathedral and St Peter’s Abbey, as your guide explains the stories behind these historical sites and how the city became a bishop’s seat. You’ll also learn about the city’s most famous resident, Wolfgang Mozart, who was born in Salzburg and lived in the city until his late teens. As you walk through the busy shopping streets, spot the prolific composer’s home at no. 9 Getreidegasse.

Admire the gardens as you continue through Mirabell Palace, where several scenes from The Sound of Music were filmed. Pass the statue of Pegasus, the same statue that Maria and the children famously danced around while singing ‘Do-Re-Mi.’

Your Salzburg day trip will conclude with a scenic drive back to Vienna, passing through the Fortress Hohensalzburg, one of the largest medieval castles in Europe. You will be dropped off at your original departure point.

This was an awesome trip - only problem was the tour guide Sonya - who was the most unpleasant and rude person. She picked on one girl and said some very derogatory and embarrassing things over the speaker. We all made jokes about it to cover our displeasure.
The tour was through beautiful mountains with chalets and the tour of the fortress was really worth it. There is a restaurant at the top of the fortress with an unending view - and we wished we had known about it before eating down in the town. This tour was so good I would take it again with a new tour guide

I chose this because my flight left at 6:30 the next morning and I needed a simple and reliable way to see something other than Vienna. Exactly as advertised. A day trip is not sufficient for Salzburg and the area, but if it's all the time you have this is the way to do it. The Guide Ava was superb, and the ride comfortable and scenic.

Trip was fantastic! Tour guide was very informative and funny. I would recommend staying longer in Salzburg than just a day. Also, if you like shopping, don't go on Sunday -most stores are closed. Trip was great to see the highlights!

Great way to see Salzburg! The hotel pickup was convenient. Comfortable bus ride with a great guide! The orientation tour of Salzburg was comprehensive but also provided enough free time to a allow you to explore the city yourself.

I highly enjoyed the trip to Salzburg and felt it was informative. I would like to return some day and spend more time there. It was nice to have an opportunity to stop along the way to also take some photos of the countryside both on the way to Salzburg and on the return trip. I would highly recommend this tour.

Great trip. Our host on the bus was perfect! Even though is takes all day long with the travel, you get to see some beautiful sights. Now I need to go to Salzburg and stay a few days.
