We were lucky enough to have James as our guide for the day and he was a brilliant host. The wine tasting was fantastic and felt as though we were doing it with friends not strangers. Overall a great trip that was excellent value for money, and we’re very grateful to James for such a memorable day.
Our wine tasting tour to the Wachau Valley was wonderful, a highlight of our trip. The scenery was beautiful, the wine and food was delicious. I liked the small group experience, very friendly. The guide was fantastic. I enjoyed the pace, we had time to see the sights and enjoy the day. I would highly recommend it.
This was a truly lovely day. We were in a comfortable vehicle with a group of 5 other travelers. Our tour guide, Marco, was very pleasant and knew a lot about wine growing in the region which he shared with us via microphone so everyone could hear in the car en route to the first tasting stop where someone from the region walked us through the varietals from the area. There was no pressure to buy anything, but there was a little gift shop which had things other than wine to purchase which was nice since we were going to be travelling for a while after this and didn't want to lug heavy things country to country. We stopped at a small town, Durnstein, where we had the option of walking around town or hiking up to the castle ruins. We went to a lovely little restaurant nearby and had a delicious lunch and more wine tasting. Because it was the very last day of the summer season in the winter, the tour goes to Melk Abbey, Marco drove us to the Danube where we took a sublime boat ride down the river. Like something out of a fairy tale, a few families parents, kids, grandparents got on the boat in traditional clothing lederhosen, peasant dresses, etc. The kids were running around while the adults tried to keep up with them, while sipping beer in the sun, all of which gave the trip the feel of a dream. I can't promise that another family will end up on your boat, but even if that hadn't happened, it still would have been a lovely day. It was also an easy way to get out of the big city of Vienna for the day. If you like wine, even a little, I recommend this trip.
Excellent tour really worthwhile for an understanding of how vineyards produce their wines and also for the wine tasting and lunch at the various vineyards
The tour was very well organized and Mario was a terrific guide. It was an easy and relaxed way to experience the wine country. We tasted many wines and lunch at the winery was fabulous. I would highly recommend!
We had Mario as a tour guide. He was excellent!! Highly recommend this tour. Really an ideal way to tour the wineries, see a lovely small town plus countryside, take a boat ride, and share a meal with a small group of people. A nice mix. Even an introverted traveler like me would appreciate this top-notch tour. We have taken 3 viator tours 2 in Zurich and 1 in Vienna, and this was hands down the best of the bunch. Close friends told us this was a must-do, and I would give the same advise to you!!
We had a great time. Our tour guide, Mario was great. The group of eight people got along really well. Learned a lot of local wines, had a great lunch and drank some great wines. The boat trip back was really nice. We highly recommend this tour for anyone that likes wine, like to see beautiful scenery and wants to visit the quaint village of Dürnheim.
There are two things that make a tour like this fun, the people you are with and the tour guide. In our case we hit the jackpot with both. The tour guide was entertaining and knowledgeable about the region and the wines. He used his knowledge to enhance our experience of the wines and the region. The people you are with cannot be controlled...so you have to make it fun with others.
Thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our guide Thomas was fantastic and we had a great day with three other couples. So nice to visit wine country in Austria, we learnt so much during the day. Lunch was great in a local place in Durnstein, only €10 each and ready when we arrived. Highly recommended.
Very enjoyable trip. Thomas our guide was excellent and knowledgeable about the places of interest and the wines we tasted. Lunch was delicious. Also the fact that there were only 8 passengers in the minivan made it even more enjoyable as we got to talk to the others. It was also nice to get out of the city for a few hours. Would recommend this trip and tour company
Thomas was knowledgeable informative guide with a great sense of humor. Even though the weather was not cooperating, we had a great time. Only weak spot of the tour was the fine print on the confirmation which required another us to make a second confirmation three days prior to the tour, or it could have been cancelled and the monies lost. This proved to not be an issue, but it created a bunch of consternation.
Our italian guide was wonderful, full of knowledge, joyful and very helpful. We had a wonderful group of Mexicans and british who made our day memorable. Thank you Viator for this splendid tour.
Tour guide was very knowledgeable. Loved the small group and the places visited. We enjoyed an excellent lunch, it wasn't crowded and ample time was allowed to eat. Great tour to see the countryside, wine tasting and I loved the river boat ride it was an opportunity to get a view from the river.
A lovely day out, relaxing and fun. Some amazing scenery, some good wine and Thomas, our guide, who was both interesting and amusing.
Excellent tour, made all the better for our tour guide Marco, who made the trip memorable with his knowledge of the region and the wine.
Great tour, highly recommended. Knowledgeable guide, beautiful scenery.
Our guide, Mario, was very knowledgeable about wine and the area. We enjoyed the small group atmosphere and found the trip to be well-planned and pleasant with sufficient time to enjoy each activity. The areas were beautiful and well worth seeing. The wines were splendid and the lunch was a fun group interaction with much laughter and discussion led by Mario. I would highly recommend this trip.
This was the highlight of my trip to Vienna. The wineries we visited were great, and tour guide was fun and knowledgeable. Being in a small group allowed us to get to know each other a bit, which made the day more fun.
Marco was our guide/driver who was friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the wines we sampled. Stopped at Durnstein and was able to climb up to the ruins, great view of the valley. Delicious lunch at a local vineyard. Excellent day trip!
We went on the Wachau Valley Small Group Tour and Wine Tasting, which was operated by Vienna Explorer, and it was fantastic. Our guide Mario was personable and funny, and very knowledgeable in wine as well as history. The sights, wine, and food were all spectacular. We visited 3 wine makers, several lovely small towns and had lunch at a wonderful heuriger at one, and an hour long boat ride on the Danube. The stunning countryside was a great counterpoint to the beautiful architecture in Vienna. Definitely recommended!
We highly recommend this tour! Our guide was fantastic, and we had a great time meeting other couples. We loved touring the quaint town of Durnstein and we went to two different wineries (beautiful scenery) and had our cruise on the Danube. Even though it was raining in Melk - seeing the Melk Abbe
Really enjoyable tour. All day tour in the beautiful Wachau Valley. We rode in a Mercedes van which was much roomier than I thought it would be. There is an aisle in the van so each row is on the aisle. Eight passengers were very comfortable including in passenger front seat. Time spent in the impossibly picturesque town of Durnstein.
Two wine tastings, delicious lunch in a beautiful garden and river cruise. Couldnt have been nicer.
Our tour guide/driver Marco was great, very engaged and friendly conducting one of the tastings himself.
Very highly recommended.
by far the best tour we went on and best day in vienna!! tomas was an awesome tour guide. answered all of our questions and mended to the lively personalities in our group. he suggested great things to do in the town and helped us order great food at the gorgeous lunch spot. we thought being a larger group seven people would be hard to go on a tour but the van worked perfect for a simi big group.
this tour is worth every penny and great to wine taste, have a boat ride and see the melk. highly recommended by all seven of us in our group!!
