What You Can Expect

Wachau Valley Winery Small-Group Bike Tour from Vienna

Admire the countryside of the Wachau Valley on a full-day bike tour!

Begin your day trip at Spittelau Station in Vienna, where you’ll meet up with your guide. Climb aboard the train to Krems and arrive in the Wachau Valley, famous for its striking landscape, top wines and agriculture.

Strap on your helmet and hop on your bike for a relaxing 14-mile (23-km) ride. Take in the fresh air and learn about the region’s history from your guide as you pedal through a gorgeous pastoral backdrop.

Pull over at two or three wineries along your route to kick back with a local wine tasting. You’ll also have the chance to try the Wachau Valley’s celebrated liqueur.

Continue to the UNESCO-listed village of Dürnstein to wander for a bit on your own. Here you’ll find the ruins of Kuenringer Castle, where King Richard the Lionheart was famously held captive in the 12th century.

Reunite with your guide for a final visit to a family-run winery. Purchase a lunch served in a typical family run restaurant (sample menu available in the Itinerary) or bring your own lunch, if you prefer to do so . Afterward, relax by the Danube River, playing a round of beach volleyball or taking a cool dip.

Your trip will conclude with a brief cruise across the Danube. Then hop aboard the train and enjoy a glass of wine while traveling back to Vienna.

This tour was one of our favourite tours throughout Europe. Our guide Giovanni was excellent. It was a fun way to explore the beautiful countryside. It was very special to visit the very small wineries and receive such personalised attention. We had wine tastings that weren't available to the general public. Would definitely recommend this tour.

We really enjoyed making friends and getting to taste wine in some beautiful locations! Our guide, Ace, was fun and also did a good job encouraging us on the bikes it had been a while since we biked and we brought up the rear, but Ace always made sure he knew where we were. The biking is mostly flat and easy if you're a less comfortable biker, the hardest parts will be the beginning and end as you go from the train station through the city of Krems. But nothing beats the views along the Danube and in the vineyards.

Beautiful day biking through cute Austrian towns and through the vineyards. Loved the scenery and had a great visit to an awesome family winery. I would do the trip again. We biked about 16 miles so be prepared for a little exercise and a few small hills.

Trip was well organised. Guide was where the email said he would be. Everything was on time, no fuss.

Our guide Ace knew the wine, the region and took good care of the group, catering to different pace of different group members. The group was also a good size, not too small or too big.

The views and the scenery are great. The vineyards that we stopped at had pretty good wine. The lunch is an extra but was tasty and filling.

Only problem, it was extremely hot on the day of our tour. We were all getting tired and thirsty very quickly. Can't blame anyone for that, but we still enjoyed the trip.

A great day out. One of the best parts was going to a small, private, family, vineyard at the beginning and not the massive factory down the road. A very nice ride, in amazing scenery, and nice friendly likeminded people to share it with.

The tour was well worth it. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the trip enjoyable. It was well paced, but we met at 9:45 am and got home after 8 pm, so plan for the whole day. Lunch was great. It was not a barbecue, which was fine, but the trip description needs to be updated.

A little mixup with getting the bikes. Other than that a fun day and great exercise.
