Choose a morning, midday, or afternoon snowmobiling tour, then make your way to the base — 14 miles (23 km) west of Vik. On arrival, listen as your guide explains the safety procedures then pull on your insulated overall and helmet. Afterward, hop into your off-road vehicle for the 30-minute journey up to the Mýrdalsjökull glacier — the start of the snowmobiling route.

During your snowmobile safari, zoom along winding trails with your guide and gaze out over the snowy landscape. Stop along the way to soak up the views and capture the scenery on camera.

Ride two people per snowmobile — with one driver and one passenger. (If you are traveling alone or in an odd-numbered group, there’s an additional charge payable locally for single riders).

Our Expectations Were Exceeded!

This was an amazing experience! Our family of seven, ages 11 through 65 enjoyed every moment. There is a nice base camp to change, they give you really good gear and warm drinks when you return. Bring your own boots and gloves (with hand warmers). Don't forget your cameras and GoPros. Book the early morning excursion so that you ascend while the sun rises (in winter) and have the rest of the day to visit Vik and the near by waterfalls.

The trip was amazing - They provide a helmet, gloves and a orange suit to keep you dry/covered. I would probably bring my own snow gloves since the wool get really wet. Also, the orange suit wont keep you 100% dry.. you will likely be a bit damp given the weather conditions. We took a truck/van up the mountain about 30 minutes. From there, we were able to ride the snowmobiles up and around the glacier. On our day it was a total white out but I guess other days you can see for miles when it's clear. Our guide Pepe was awesome- such great energy and fun. One thing to note is that if you reserve for 2 people in one reservation you will likely be sharing a snowmobile (it's extra to have your own). I would do it again!

Our snowmobiling experience started out with a short briefing as we slipped on some extra warm gear. Our guide, Helmur hope I got that right!, then took us up the mountain in a massive super jeep. Along the way we learned about the mountain and Helmur himself--he was a super chilled and cool guy. Soon after we arrived to our convoy of snowmobiles, we took our rides on a journey around the mountain to breathe in the amazing landscape and appreciate the view of the south coast of Iceland. During our ride, Helmur took some photos of us and later got some cool footage of us on our GoPro. We had an awesome time just wish it was longer and maybe a bit faster!

We were supposed to snowmobile, however, because of the bad weather the day before, the snow was slushy and we were given the option to do an ATV trip instead. The ATV trip was great! We rode through rivers, on the black sand beach, through the dunes, etc. It was about a 2 hour trip. We were very happy with the trip, and not unhappy the our excursion was changed.

This was one of the coolest things I have ever done in my life. I am not an extreme sports person, but a friend recommended I do this tour on my solo trip to Iceland in April and it did not disappoint! It's a bit of a drive from Reykjavik, but totally worth it. The folks at the base were wonderful--I was pretty nervous and they took good care of me and assured me I would have a blast they were right. Izzy was my guide and he was so patient and kind--I really had no clue what I was doing and it took me a long time to get the hang of the snowmobile...and he hung out in the back with me the whole time until I got the hang of it. They took us to some amazing spots on the glacier, took pictures for us and gave us some good Iceland history along the way. This is a once in a lifetime experience--DO NOT PASS ON THIS EXPERIENCE!!!!!
