What To Expect
Make your way to Lafayette Park, where this walking tour begins across from the North Front of the White House. Meet a costumed actor who will walk with you throughout the tour, sharing stories from the White House history. John Ousley worked as the White House gardener for 30 years, after he was chosen by John Quincy Adams. Find out about the changing landscape of the early White House years. Follow John Ousley through the streets around the White House as your guide illustrates the early years of the United States with fun anecdotes and facts, and learn about the importance of gardens to United States Presidents, some of whom were farmers before being elected. Please Note: The walk does not go into the White House or onto the White House grounds.

DC can get quite hot in the summer so please bring along water to drink on the walk.
We do a moderate amount of walking so wear comfortable shoes.
We do not stop for bathroom breaks so please come prepared to remain with the group for the duration.
We stay in the shade as much as possible but it's a good idea to wear sunscreen, just in case.
The walk will not take place in un-friendly weather such as ice storms, snow, continuous rain, thunderstorms, high winds, extreme heat or if it is lightening. Walk guests will be notificed via email, text or phone call if a walk must be cancelled.
