Beautiful NZ

Great tour, great company. The guide was well prepared and full of great information. New Zealand is so beautiful. They went out of their way to make sure we were back in time for our ship to sail. We are LOTR fans, but not FANATICS, but we loved all the insider info.

Thanks for your feedback! We always try and accommodate people from all walks of life and all levels of LOTR fandom. You don't need to be a massive fan to enjoy yourself [as you found out] because the countryside tells it's own story, as well. Thanks, Rover Rings Tours

Very enjoyable day visiting the Weta workshop and covering number of location scenes with a lot of background onto how the shots were carried out and flaws in them!! The knowledge of our tour Guide Lesley is second to none.

Lovley day of site seeing

Great day out seeing some sites weather you like LOTR or not. I'd opt for the full day over half if you have the choice. The snacks and lunch were way better than expected. The tour guide was unbelievably nice and a funny guy. I forget his name but he was young and had a beard. That man deserves a pay rise.

Thanks for the review. Unfortunately 'young and had a beard' does not narrow it down much! Glad you enjoyed the food as well.

New Zealand's and Tolkien's Middle Earth
readetts
, Feb 2020
As a first time visitor to New Zealand and keen Tolkien fan and student, it was great to be guided around so many interesting landmarks and locations pivotal in the making of the films over the past 20 years. Thanks to our guide, Manou, who explained everything with good humour - it gave us an extra insight into the making/production of Jackson's classics. A good size group led to some welcome feedback and we interacted well throughout the day.

Hi readetts, Thanks for your feedback! Glad you enjoyed your day and we'll pass on your thanks to Manon.

What a fantastic way to spend New Year’s Eve (and incidentally my birthday)! We were lucky enough to get Jack as our guide for the full day tour. He was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining with heaps of insider knowledge about the actors and Weta workshop. We had a blast posing with props at all of the locations and the workshop itself was super interesting. Our themed lunch was also great and they even catered for special dietary requirements. All in all, a brilliant day and one we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Thanks Jack!

Overall Great

This tour was fun- I loved our driver- he happened to be an extra for LOTR and has a history of hand modeling (Zoolander, anyone?). He was very easygoing and fun to talk to. We had another tour guide with us that was in training. It was very neat to have them both. Our tour was very small- only one other couple, so it felt like a private tour. It was neat to see the places that scenes were filmed and a lot of them so close to the city. You realize how much CGI was needed for certain scenes. I really loved how they had a picture of the scene from the movie so you could look and see the same tree or pond as in the scene rather than going off memory. It was nice that the tour offered muffins and drinks (I got to try L&P!) along the way, as well as umbrellas since it was a rainy day. They were very prepared. We had lunch at this neat B&B that is an old house and in the same town that the director James Cameron lives in. Very delicious lunch, but man the drive there was curvy (I don't get car sick and I was feeling it). The only part of this tour I was disappointed with, but it's not the tour's fault, is the Weta Cave Studio Tour. I have done the Harry Potter world in London and expected something similar but not as large. This was very tiny and disappointing with not that many props. It was cool that there was an area to touch different props to see the difference, but I was quite bored and it was very short. I wouldn't recommend it. However, we did see the studios where Peter Jackson works, and also the world's largest green screen- outdoors, with no security. As our tour guide stated- "Kiwis don't really care about celebrities- they're just people. And sitting outside of someone's house for a picture is considered stalking and that is illegal." I wish the US would catch onto this.

Thank you for taking the time to review our Full Day LOTR Tour Katie. We enjoy taking small groups out and being able to interact and talk candidly through the day. You are right, Weta is no Harry Potter World, but then it doesn't try to be. We enjoy the interaction with the actual weta crew members, and appreciate them opening the space up when their main business is still making movies.

The guide was easy to find. Very knowledgeable about the film locations. The props were helpful in explaining how shots were made. Lunch was at a pretty garden cafe.

We love our lunch spot (and the food they provide). So glad you enjoyed the tour. Thank you for the review.
