Take an evening tour of the Weta Workshop, a leading special effects and prop studio co-founded by director Peter Jackson, where you’ll learn about Wellington’s movie-making history. Discover the creative film production process from skilled technicians at the Weta Cave. You may recognize blockbusters such as ‘Avatar,’ ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and — of course — ‘The Lord of the Rings.’ Finish with a 3-course dinner at CoCo at the Roxy in the heart of Miramar. Round-trip transport from the Wellington CBD included.
The Workshop was not as good as expected. The 'museum part'was interesting and the guide was very kmowledgable. However I expected to see more of the 'workshops' things being created or worked on. There were two ladies working on a life-like mask applying human hair. The work was very fine and specialised. After seeing the very large figurines at the Te Papa exhibition that were extraordinary, I expected to see more of the work that the workshop was involved in. Still worth the visit. The climax of the tour was the dinner at Cocos. This restaurant has been extensively renovated in 1930s style without regard to expense. Exceptional as was the food. Pleased to have experienced this tour and highly recommended.
It was really good. Driver was a really nice chap who talked us through what we were about to experience. If you into Hobbiton or Lord if Rings it's a must do. Coco at the Roxy is a fantastic building to have look around and food first class.
