What You Can Expect

Beatrix Potter's Lakeland Tour from Windermere Including Lake Cruise

Tarn Hows

After an afternoon pickup from your Windermere hotel, travel to Bowness-on-Windermere by minibus for your 30-minute sightseeing cruise.
Step onto your comfortable boat, and enjoy the idyllic scenery as you cruise across Lake Windermere, England’s biggest lake. Take photos from deck, and then step ashore at Waterhead, on the lake’s northern shores.
Rejoin your minibus and travel through the undulating countryside to Hill Top, the home Beatrix Potter bought in 1905 using monies earned from her debut children’s book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Having fallen in love with the Lake District, Beatrix spent much of her life here, gleaning inspiration from the landscapes and villages for her stories.
Wander around the pretty cottage garden, home to an allotment like those featured in many of Beatrix’s tales, and browse the charming gift shop. If you wish, head inside the 17th-century house to explore the rooms, left pretty much as they were in Beatrix’s day. View her writing desk, furnishings and personal effects, and learn about her daily life here.
Next, continue to Hawkshead, a lovely village famous for its whitewashed cottages and cobbled lanes. Learn how English poet William Wordsworth was schooled here between 1779 and 1787, and glimpse the old grammar schoolhouse he attended.
Drive on to Tarn Hows, one of the area’s best-loved beauty spots. Here, drink in the gorgeous views of the lake against a backcloth of rugged peaks.
Afterward, ride back to Windermere where your tour ends with a hotel drop-off.
Please note: Hill Top is closed on Fridays.

Our guide was fantastic. he was able to answer any/all questions of all of us. Super friendly, energetic, outgoing and a fantastic driver! There was a road closure so we got a special treat of going a sidetrip into Grasmere.
I would highly recommend everyone to take this tour and enjoy the beautiful area of windermere .
doesn't get much better when we were picked up and dropped off at our hotel front door!

What a great tour this was, to be able to see all of the history and actual drawings and original works by Beatrix was well worth it. On the day we were there the weather was a little cold so the lake cruise was not as pleasant as it would be on a nice blue sky day. The guides we had were very informative and provided a lot more information on the life and times of Beatrix that we expected. Great job.

The tour guide/ driver was brilliant and had a wealth of knowledge on the area. We had a mix up with my pick up location but I contacted the company who called the driver and she returned with a smile. To avoid future confusion, please note that Burn How Garden House Hotel has two driveway entrances. Very enjoyable afternoon exploring the Lake District. Thank you.

Andy was a very good and friendly guide. I joined the tour with my wife and daughter. They enjoyed the visit to Hill Top in which Beatrix Potter created her works. The scenery of country side on the way back to Windermere was also very beautiful. On the previous day, we visited The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in Bowness-on-Windermere. It was lucky for us to have been able to visit two sites of Beatrix Potter's world.

Our trip with Mountain Goat Tours to see Beatrix Potter's Lakes District and cruise on Windameer was brilliant! Matthew was an able, witty and knowledgable tour guide and created more of an experience than just a tour. We laughed, we were awed and we were well taken care of. This tour is definitely worth doing and we wpuld highly recommend it! Mum is 81 and needs some assistance with stairs and walking but with Matthew's help and her walking frame she managed to enjoy the tour fully. Thank you Matthew and thank you Mountain Goat Tours!

We had a terrific time. Our guide was very good. It was much better on tour than having to drive. We just sat back and soaked up the beautiful countryside.

We were only in the Lakes District for a day, and we wanted a way to see as much of it as possible. This tour was a perfect way to do that! Our guide Lisa was excellent. She gave us lots of great information as we drove and helped us to navigate each of our stops easily. This tour gives you just enough time at lots of different places, and we felt we had a full experience. If you want to get a great sampling of what this area of England has to offer in a short time, we highly recommend this tour!
