4 star rating: Recommended January 2017

The tour was great although the tour company should have told us to get a SIM card for our smart phones at the airport to avoid frustration with weak wifi in Myanmar and we should have been alerted to the need for a Visa. The tour company was very quick to respond to problems, however, so I give them high marks. The hotels were not what we would call 3-star quality very dark, few amenities, weak wifi, and so forth and not the quality we were expecting for the price of the tour. The people in the hotels were all very nice and tried to be helpful, but Myanmar is not quite ready for prime time. Be prepared for that. The guides did not all have excellent English skills and were often unintelligible. But they were all very nice and trustworthy. The sights were excellent and I would miss traveling in Myanmar. Inle Lake in particular is absolutely fantastic and so much fun to travel on the boats and see the various workshops. Lots of crafts to see and to buy.
