Get picked up from your accommodations in Yokohama in the morning and meet your driver-guide for the day. You’ll then travel to Hakone via the Tomei Expressway, stopping en route at Otome Pass to enjoy views of Mount Fuji in the distance.
Make the first stop of the day at “Hakone-jinja,” a Shinto shrine that dates to Japan’s medieval era. The “shogun” rulers of the day made this site a key place of worship for followers in the greater Kanto region. Continue to Lake Ashinoko, where you’ll enjoy a 30-minute cruise aboard an authentic replica pirate ship traveling from Motohakone to Togendai. The views of Mount Fuji 18 miles (30 kilometers) off in the distance are an added treat.
Head next to the Komagatake Ropeway, where you’ll take ride aboard this aerial lift to the Hakone Shrine Mototsumiya shrine perched on the mountaintop above. Then proceed to the Hakone Venetian Glass Museum, displaying glass artwork from the period between the 15th and 19th centuries. For added entertainment you’ll also enjoy the serenades of “canzones” (Italian songs) at the on-site café and try to make a glass creation of your own at the museum workshop.
Finish the day at Hakone Yumoto Shopping Center, a retail area that sits at the entrance to the Hakone Yumoto hot spring area. You’ll be dropped off back at your hotel around 8pm.
