What You Can Expect

Full-Day Yorkshire Dales Tour from York in Winter

Sheep in the Yorkshire Dales

Begin the day by meeting your group in the city center. Climb aboard a comfortable, climate-controlled minivan for an 8-hour day tour of the scenic Yorkshire Dales. Your group is limited to 16 people or fewer to ensure an intimate atmosphere and personal attention from your guide.

Drive through Ripon, famous for its cathedral, before stopping at Masham. Stroll through the charming town at your own pace, getting lost in the streets or seeking out a local market.

Back on the van, continue to Middleham Castle, famous for being Richard III's childhood home. On a brief stop, listen to your guide's commentary about the 'Windsor of the North' as you snap photos of the imposing structure.

After travel through rolling countryside with bucolic vistas, arrive at Reeth for lunch (own expense). Your guide will be happy to recommend one of the village's tea rooms or pubs.

Continue to Bolton Castle, the site of Mary Queen of Scots' imprisonment. Admire the crumbling face of the castle before voyaging on to your next stops, Aysgarth Falls and the Ure River waterfalls. Immerse yourself in the tranquil atmosphere and breathe in the misty air. Your next waterfall stop is at the West Burton Cauldron Falls, featured in a J.M.W Turner painting.

Drive through Kettlewell and Buckden on the way to view the impressive limestone cliffs at Klinsey Crag. Make a stop in Grassington, where you can peruse the charming market selling local goods.

At the conclusion of your 8-hour tour, return to York for drop-off at your hotel or in the city center.

This tour was amazing. If one is looking for hills covered with ice and scenic valleys this is the trip.

Trip started at 9am and ended at 530pm. Comfortable vehicle with intermittent stops and photo opportunities.

Loved the tour with Trevor D, he knew a ton about the agricultural history of the area and how some formations were man-made centuries ago, what types of cows were under conservation status, etc. and also personalized the tour to fit a request of mine, with sharing a number of sites he noted through the window as being from the James Herriot TV series and movie, which was wonderful.

Our guide was very interesting, enthusiastic, and informative. Enjoyed a very nice weather day so the several stops, which included abby ruins, Boltain Castle, plus Reeth for lunch, were an especially enjoyable combination with the dale scenery. Walking along a river eating sweet wild blackberries during lunch is especially memoriable as were the guide's description of life in the Dales. A special treat was seeing various All Creatures locations. I would happily repeat this tour.

A lovely day out. Our guide, Trevor, was very knowledgeable about the area and all aspects of its history and landscape, and he was adept at picking up on what everyone was interested in and adjusting accordingly. He was also friendly and engaging but did not overload us with more talk than we needed or wanted. The small group size was a plus - it gave us a sense of camaraderie and freed us from the cattle call feel of larger tours. The various sites we stopped at were beautiful and interesting, but the real star of the whole day was simply the gorgeous countryside of the Dales. Overall, a full and thoroughly enjoyable day for a very reasonable price.

Really great trip. Our driver was friendly and informative. He answered all diverse questions thrown at him even ones about Barcelona! and, as our group was quite small, was flexible on where we went and what we saw. Was impressed with all the places we stopped at and overall the journey was very scenic. One of our group was in her eighties and the trip was perfect for not having to do too much walking if we didn't want to. The day after, our driver even dropped off my coat, which I'd left on the coach, at our hotel! Will definitely book again with this company.

The route was well planned and the driver was very pleasant. He related interesting facts about the various locations along the way. We had sufficient time at each stop and enjoyed our hour-long stop for lunch at Reeth. We especially liked Jervaulx Abbey and Bolton Castle. If you don't have time to tour the Yorkshire Dales at your leisure this is a great way to cover a wide area and get a taste of the whole area, enjoying the beautiful scenery and getting a glimpse into village life as you go. It certainly didn't feel like we had spent all day driving around. The time seemed to go very quickly and we enjoyed the company of our fellow travellers - and our driver. It was a great day out and we would gladly recommend it. We would also book another similar tour as it is a good way of discovering the sights of an area without having to do any research or planning beforehand.
