In the early afternoon, make your way to the Yosemite Village Mall to meet your professional photographer guide, who has associations with an established park gallery and expertise in shooting nature scenes. Bring your own camera and come prepared with comfortable walking shoes and clothing suited to the park’s changeable weather conditions. All types of cameras are welcome, but those with a manual mode are ideal to get the most from your experience. Tripods are also recommended and can be rented for the day.
Set off by foot to visit three to five locations within the park, chosen for their spectacular scenery and suitability based on the weather and lighting conditions of the day. Expect to walk around 2 to 3 miles (3 to 5 km) along mostly flat terrain, much of it on paved trails. Wheelchair-accessible itineraries are available if requested in advance.
At each site, get pointers on setting up your equipment, composing a great shot and making the most of your camera’s technical features to create the best image. Gain a solid understanding of how to read histograms and adjust aperture, shutter speed, ISO and other settings for vibrant, balanced and captivating photos.
Class size is limited to 10 people for a more intimate small-group setting and individualized attention from the instructor. This course is ideal for beginning to intermediate amateur photographers and will help build solid foundational skills to help you realize your artistic vision anywhere in Yosemite and beyond.
