What To Expect

Meet a driver at your Zagreb hotel or central meeting point, then board a climate-controlled vehicle for the trip towards Lika, where the first stop of the day is the village of Rastoke, a historic community at the confluence of the Slunjčica and Korana Rivers. Walk through the village to see traditional watermills and old fashioned, riverside houses built from limestone and wood.

Continue to Plitvice Lakes National Park for a guided hike that explores some of the Plitvice's 16 lakes, which are linked by waterfalls. See the lower and upper lakes on foot, then board a train for a brief, but scenic, tour. The last Plitvice Lakes adventure is a boat cruise across Kozjak Lake, which is surrounded by thick evergreen forest (train and boat service are suspended from November through March, when tours of Plitvice Lakes National Park are on foot).

At the end of your day in Plitvice Lakes National Park, begin the return trip to Zagreb, where this tour concludes at drop-off at your original departure point.

Arrive at the historic village of Rastoke, situated at the confluence of Slunjčica and Korana rivers. Stroll around the well-preserved watermills and picturesque waterfalls, and admire the unique architecture of the houses built along the river.

Two hours from Zagreb you will find the most amazing place. We stopped at Rastoke en route for half an hour. A picturesque little village full of waterfalls. As we left Rastoke, the cloud lifted and the sun came out as we arrived at Plitvice National Park. At this time of year it was pretty quiet, and along with some incredible weather for early November, this made for some magical scenery. Our guide Mateja was informative, and allowed us to walk at our own pace. We were lucky that the good weather allowed us to take a boat across the lakes. If you are visiting Croatia, this place is a must see.

A must visit with an awesome guide!

Plitvice Lakes are one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited! Traveling there with the tour guide Mat made it even better. I solo signed up and so did three other people. We were a small crew of four (5 with our guide Mat) and it was an awesome combo. The ride to the waterfalls found us driving through Karlovac and Tušilović and we saw buildings with visible bullet holes, carried over the from the 1991-1995 war. Mat knew so much history about Zagreb and Croatia and was patient with all of our questions. We first stopped at Rastoke, a medieval village... but except for a couple cool photos, it wasn't really worth it. We stayed for only 15 minutes, used the washroom, and some got tea / or grabbed lunch to go. Once we got to the gorgeous Plitvice Lakes, Mat journeyed with us and frequently offered to take solo and group pictures, helping us capture the whole day. He knew so much about the falls, the water, the grounds, the system, etc...He then suggested that we skip the boat that floats up the lake and instead, to spend over an hour walking alongside the lake -- so glad we listened! It was much prettier and much lovelier to be walking. The Upper Lakes were closed for maintenance of walkways, but it was barely a disappointment because the vast grounds still offered so much for what we COULD SEE! I was there in mid April and it was not very crowded (my suggestion to try to go in an uncrowded season). It was also 22*C and the sun was shining... a magnificent experience! I totally bonded with the two other woman in my group and it was such an awesome combo of walking / light hiking, and standing in awe at the gorgeously blue lakes. Mat spoke of his family and his life growing up and his personalization of this tour made it that much more memorable. These lakes are a SITE TO BE SEEN! Do not miss! This tour was worth every penny spent.

A Great Education As Well As Entertainment
Melinda_J, Feb 2022
I went as a solo traveler and was picked up near the Zagreb City center by my tour guide, Petra. I was the only one signed up so it was a private tour. She was a fabulous guide and I had an amazing time. She had a wealth of information to share not only at the park itself but also on the way to the park. I learned from her that there is even a bridge named after Jimi Hendrix because someone wrote his name in graffiti across it and the name stuck., She was very animated and entertaining in her delivery telling me the names of the waterfalls, who they were named after, the stories, legends, and histories behind them. One waterfall was even named after a famous opera singer. The park was beautiful with all of the rock formations and a variety of waterfalls. I enjoyed it so much more than if I just went by myself and really learned nothing.

The highlight of our holiday!
Amy_R, Nov 2022
Walking around the lakes was incredible. We got lucky with the weather so it was sunny and clear, and the walkways were comfortable. You feel so calm being next to the waterfalls! Make sure you wear comfy shoes, and maybe bring some water/snacks with you. Our guide Blaz was amazing. He pointed out so many interesting little details and was lovely to talk to, it very clear that he loves Croatia and the lakes. The smaller tour size (there were 6 of us) was nice too. I would absolutely recommend you do this if you can, it's really something unique!

Breathtaking & Easy Walking
KRISTINA_M, Oct 2022
This tour was the perfect way to experience the vast Plitvice lakes in a day trip from Zagreb. Blush was our guide and he was super friendly and had lots of great stories. The tour explores both upper and lower lakes with a total of about 8km of walking. The trails are mostly shady and cool. It was relaxing to be led through to all the major viewpoints without having to figure out the trails and Blush went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable in pace and make time for lots of pics. Small group, safe drive and comfortable minivan for the 2hr drive there & back.

Plitvice Lakes are the most beautiful lakes I have seen. The scenery and the views of the waterfalls were just breathtaking. Our tour guide Renato was great! He picked us from out hotel, which made it so easier and provided us with many stories of Croatia. Renato had all the tickets booked, which meant we didn't have to wait for long. The best thing was that he knew all the best places to take the best pictures of Plitvice lakes. There was six in our group (which was a good number comparing to the very large groups we saw), which made it easier to chat to our fellow travellers. The walk was at a nice gentle pace and you never felt rushed. The lakes are stunning and definitely must see if in Croatia. I highly recommend this tour, especially having Renato as the tour guide.

Definitely worth it

The tour was great. The tour guide was very nice and the ride was very comfortable. The fact that it was a small group allowed us to interact more with each other and follow along easier which allowed everything to run much smoother. The guide knew all the best spots from the places we visited, which allowed us to get the best of everything without being worried all the time about getting lost or not being able to get the best out of it all. Also, the drive itself was really enriching, as we were able to talk and learn more about Zagreb's history. A day very well spent. Definitely recommend this tour.

A walk to natural wonders
Christine_T, Jul 2022
This is a long day so make sure you’re well prepared with lots of water, comfortable shoes and a can-do attitude! The tour is around 9-10 hours long and the first stop is Rastoke which is a quaint little village with a few waterfalls; you’ll have around 30mins here so grab a coffee and enjoy the views. You’ll need cash because most of the coffee shops here do not accept card payments. The next stop is Plitvice which is a huge park full of uphill climbs but breathtaking views. If you go in summer, make sure to take sunblock with you and a hat too if possible. I would also suggest taking a packed lunch because the queues at the food stalls are long and the food is nothing special; also take every opportunity to use the bathrooms because there are only 2 stops along the entire route. The walk is done at an easy pace and our guide, Renato, waited for everyone to take photos and offered to take photos for everyone too. The lakes and waterfalls are beautiful. Definitely worth visiting!

Blues I’ve never seen before!
Rosalynd_U, Jul 2022
The lakes have some of the most beautiful blue hues I’ve ever seen! This national park is really special and should be on everyone’s Zagreb itinerary. And our tour guide, Blaze, was outstanding. He really made the trip. He was funny, personable, and kept up the group’s energy for the whole 12 hours. Would highly recommend taking the tour with him to get the full experience.

An unforgettable day!
Liane_C, Jun 2022
I was a solo traveler trying to catch some sights before attending an academic conference in Zagreb. I could not ask for a more perfect day! Do not miss this tour if you want to have an experience that you will remember for a lifetime. My guide (Renato) literally knew every corner of the trail so I could just enjoy the breathtaking scenery. We were a motley crew of 3 active solo travelers and a small family. Our guide managed all of our needs brilliantly, letting us move ahead faster/longer in certain spots as well as managing the needs of the family traveling with a young child. (Note: I was a solo traveler on this trip but have 2 kids ages 5 and 8 and would not recommend this tour for you unless you are willing to sit out the hike around the upper lakes - around 1 hour). It was 95 degrees out but the heat was manageable since most parts of the trail are shaded.

Great experience which I'd recommend to everyone who's up for nature
Marco_G, May 2022
It was a wonderful trip and we had a very knowledgable driver who guided us through Rastoke and Plitvice. We've managed to see a lot and I took many beautiful photos. Weather was stunning so overall I'd recommend this trip if you enjoy nature. I guess it also stands and falls with the people joining you in the group. Most of my "colleagues" were nice and enjoyed the tour as much as I did while others took this as an opportunity to talk nonstop for more than 3 hours without taking a break so that they can enjoy what's around them ;-)

Amazing trip
Oksana_F, Apr 2022
It was an absolutely amazing trip to Plitvice guided by tour guide Renato. We absolutely enjoyed the leisurely walk in the nature. Our guide was very welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly. He also didn’t push us to buy ang souvenirs or to visit any restaurants, it was all up to our own choice, which is very nice compared to other tours we took while traveling in other countries. We definitely recommend this tour ❤️

Great experience
Amber_S, Apr 2022
The tour to the Plitvice Lakes and Rastoke was amazing. It was March and had luck with the weather. We went with only three people in total on the tour and were amazed by the interesting stories our tour guide Petra told us. She was super kind and knew so much about the area. It was a very relaxed tour in which we could truly enjoy the beautiful nature. We even talked about music, the changing climate and many more subjects. It was impossible to nót fall in love with the Plitvice Lakes, Rastoke and Croatia.

Don’t miss the park full of gorgeous water
Theresa_V, Apr 2022
Amazing day out to a lovely little village and to a beautiful national park with so many waterfalls. It’s nice to do this tour in off-peak so the crowds are light. The hike takes a while but is not difficult so the trip sounds accessible for most people. Lunch was midway through the hike. If you want something besides hamburger or sausage for lunch, go ahead and pack a lunch for the day. The guide also did a great job.
