What You Can Expect

Day Trip from Zurich to Lucerne and Stanserhorn Including Funicular Railway, Aerial Cable Car and Train Ride

Vintage Funicular Train

Greet your guide a meeting point in central Zurich, and climb aboard an air-conditioned minivan destined for Switzerland’s scenic countryside. Admire verdant panoramas as you travel parallel to the shore of Lake Lucerne, past crumbling limestone cliffs and flower-filled meadows.
On arrival in Lucerne, embark on a short sightseeing tour with your knowledgeable guide; see impressive monuments like Chapel Bridge and the Lion Monument and gain fascinating insight into the city’s rich historical heritage. Spend some leisurely time exploring the Old Town, an area thronged with ancient relics.
See the 14th-century town walls and then re-join the coach for the short and scenic journey to Stans, home to a recently restored 19th-century funicular railway. Experience an enchanting ride through flowering meadows and swooping valleys and disembark at the train station to explore the region independently.
On your guide’s recommendation, conquer your fear and climb aboard the CabriO, an open-top aerial cable car that affords stunning views of the surrounding Alpine panorama. Ascend to the lofty summit of Mount Stanserhorn and relish staggering views as you climb to a height of 6,230 feet (1,900 meters).
Scour the horizon for 10 lakes and more than 62 miles (100 km) of Swiss Alps mountain range before taking a short hike to Marmot Park, an idyllic nature reserve in which animals thrive in their natural environment. Opt to enjoy a unique dining experience in the mountaintop’s rotating restaurant (own expense) and then return to Stans to meet your guide.
Take the train back to Lucerne and, after enjoying some additional free time in the charming city, board your return coach to Zurich.

Beautiful day. Lucerne was a great surprise-What a beautiful city. Stanserhorn gave us the beautiful view being high up on top of the world. The ride up in the open top cable was breathtaking...A must do!!

We absolutely loved the Stanserhorn portion of this tour. Highly recommend! One note to travelers...if you go on a Saturday, the stores in Lucerne close at 4 pm, so shopping isn't an option when you return by train from Stanserhorn.

This tour starts with a bus in Zurich, travels the countryside to Lucerne where you get to do a little walking around the town. You then go outside of town to a small station where you get the railway/cable car to go to the top of the mountain. The view going up was breathtaking. We couldn't see anything from the actual top because we were fogged in. We ended up leaving early and spending more time walking around Lucerne until we caught up with our group and took the bus back to Zurich.

this tour was excellent, but for old people the bus driver should explain better where to take the train back to Lucerne, luckily we meet a young couple that help us find the train back to Lucerne, because they have GPS on their phone, if not we maybe get lost

Amazing Day! Explored Lucerne and fell in love with the quaint Old Town-- the Lion Monument, Chapel Bridge and vibrant architecture is a must see. The tour consisted of two separate groups- my group went up the Stanserhorn on the CabriO socked in by clouds due to bad weather but still had breathtaking views. The tour was partially independent and was given a train ticket back to Lucerne to reconnect with the tour. Instructions were clear and the guide was helpful-- As I was traveling alone, he wanted to ensure I would be ok on my own! Overall a great day and would highly recommend!
