I do not appreciate the lack of transparency in the tour description. However, I want to mention that our guide was really kind; well intentioned and the driver very professional. The guide even bought a bottle of mezcal for the group to have all a shot. Firstly the group was not small. We were 18 persons and we merged with other 2 groups to multiple attractions The bread tasting is a scam. A place with hundreds of people and bread broken from a package. In Oaxaca there are a lot of super good bakeries and coffee shops. We could have just stopped to one of them instead. The guide was however super nice and to Aqua del Hierve he explained us the way to do the hiking/ walk around by ourselves. Beautiful scenery. The water was a bit chill. Lunch it is a self service with other of hundred of people around. It was interesting seeing the plantation of mezcal and the guide provided really good information about the production process. We had 12 small tasting, but half were mainly sweet mixtures. I belive it was a very commercial tour and I would have preffered transparency regarding no of people . I would have chosen something only with Aqua de Hierve and the mezcal tasting.

Dear Iuliana, Thank you for your feedback! We’re happy you enjoyed the guide, driver, and mezcal explanations. Your tour took place during the Day of the Dead season (the busiest time of the year in Oaxaca ) when it’s very difficult to keep groups small. Even so, we’re always committed to offering the best possible service. The bread tasting stop is at a local bakery located on the way to Hierve el Agua (almost a 2-hour drive) to make the trip more comfortable and give guests a short break. We truly appreciate your comments and will keep improving. We’d love to host you again during a quieter season for a more personalized experience. Kerenn

Small group (just my husband and I with one other couple) led by Santiago on a great tour! He shared some history while on our drive and was very passionate and kind. Loved each step of the tour and recommend it as a good way to get out of the city and see multiple sites
    Santiago + Hierve el Agua = 5 stars !!
    Victoria_P, Mar 2025
We had a great day ! Our tour guide, Santiago, was punctual picking us up from the meeting point in Oaxaca and was so kind. He gave us explanations of interesting landmarks along the way and in the stops of the tour. He was also very flexible with us and allowed us to enjoy our time fully. We really enjoyed him as a tour guide. He friendliness and attention to each individual guest on the tour really made us feel like we were receiving a 5 star experience! Another plus was the mezcalería. The owner, Mr. Tino, was very knowledgeable, kind, and fun. We were so pleasantly surprised about the entire tour experience and would definitely repeat the tour with Santiago.
    As good as it gets!!!

This tour was beyond amazing in every way possible. Unlike other tours, this one was not rushed at all and we were even taken to some other fantastic places as an added bonus and had only one other great couple with us to share our adventures with. Our guide, Santiago was an absolute gem. He spoke English incredibly well and shared his vast knowledge in history of the area throughout the tour. He made sure to get us to Hierve el Agua while it was not overly busy and let us take our time hiking around to see all the incredible views while still getting ample time to soak in the ever refreshing pools. Our afternoon lunch break took us to an authentic Oaxacan buffet which had endless items to try, most of which were absolutely amazing. The mezcal tour exceeded all expectations as well; very informative and we were able to taste so many different types without getting any pressure at all for purchasing some of their delicious products. A shout out is also necessary to our driver, Louis, who was very patient while waiting for us at all our stops and ensuring that we made it back to our starting point safe and sound. If I could give this tour an 11 out of 10 I would do so without any hesitation!
An amazing tour with great activities!

Such a fun time! I went with my 11 tear old son and we had a blast! The tour guide and driver were so sweet and fun and had lots of good info to share with the group without going overboard on chatter haha. Highly recommend!!!
    Highly recommended!

This was an excellent tour. Our guide Santiago and our driver Juan were both professional & friendly, making sure that we got from each destination safely & without delay. Santiago also took the time to explain relevant cultural & historical context for the sights we passed during the drive, & made sure ti point out interesting features such as the Yagul cave painting. As vegans we didn’t expect the bakery to have any options for us, but Santiago went out of his way to make sure we knew what foods & drinks we could enjoy at each stop, including the little pieces of chocolate that he handed out as a welcome gift. We also had plenty of time to enjoy Hierve el Agua ( including a self-directed hike to several viewpoints as well as some time in the pools), a leisurely lunch, & many tastings of mezcal during the tour—& even made it back to Oaxaca in time to freshen up for dinner. A perfect day & highly recommended for anyone interested in a good outing during their Oaxaca visit..
    A great full day activity

Santiago was an amazing friendly tour guide, was always open to feedback from the group. He started the trip by giving us each a piece of chocolate that his mother (I believe he said?) made which was so sweet and personal! We loved that! Easy meeting spot, bus ride felt like an hour but wasn’t notified of two stops before the hot springs- wish we knew that we’d be stopping at an arboretum and bread shop because it added a bit of time to the expected duration of the trip. The hot springs were an easy trail downhill and they were a little crowded (and the water was actually a bit chilly!) but otherwise what I expected based on other peoples tips. The mezcal stop was close to the hot springs and we also tried a wide variety of flavors which was nice, then about an hour long bus ride back to our starting point.
    Great group size for tour
    Grace_A, Oct 2024
Santiago our guide & Saul our driver were very attentive during the entire tour. Santiago made sure we were not only comfortable but content with all of our activities. Our group size was small & drive very comfortable.
Must do if you’re in the city of Oaxaca!
    Roco_C, Aug 2024
Santiago and Álvaro were great! Santiago is very knowledgeable about the area and our trip to hierve el agua was so great and memorable. The mezcalería distillery was a wonderful learning experience and the mezcal was top notch. We got to learn a lot and see quite a bit in just 8 hours. A must do for anyone coming to Oaxaca.
    Disappointing
    MariaEsther_R, Aug 2024
This "tour" was really just transport to and from Hierve el Agua. I expected our guide to accompany us to through the site and share relevant information while there. That was not the case. We were dropped off at the entrance and instructed to meet back there within a couple of hours. After our time at Hierve el Agua we made our way to the mezcal distillery which was a huge disappointment. Their partner at the distillery was not available so we didn't get to learn about the mezcal-making process. After a quick walk through the facilities we got to try a few of their mezcal offerings.
    Response from Host, Aug 2024
Oaxaca is a place with the most amount of municipalities, little towns where they have their own system to run the town (usos y costumbres) like Hierve el Agua so they don’t allow tour guides from outside to show around their town. I talked with our tour guide and we know he’s doing his best to give you a great experience in Oaxaca. It’s unfortunate you didn’t enjoy it, we will keep on working to make our service the best.
    Karen was amazing!

Karen was an amazing guide - from sharing a cafe de hoya in the morning, all through the tour. The time was sufficient to do a short hike, and jump in the water if you wanted to. The mezcal tasting was perfect!
A great fun tour with swimming and mezcal
    Sandra_G, Jun 2024
This was such a great day. The weather cooperated and Hierve del Agua was gorgeous. The mezcal tour was really fun. It was great to be in a small group and Adriel the tour guide was fantastic. He shared so much about the region and people and history. (The drive whose name I forgot was also a super nice person.). Definitely a highlight and recommend if you visit Oaxaca.
    Day of Fun and History

We had so much fun hanging out at Hierve el Agua. Our daughter loved it! Our tour guard was so knowledgeable of the history of the area and was so accommodating.
Amazing Tour and Tour Guides in Oaxaca

Kerenn and Guillermo were amazing. They gave us a great tour and history of Mexico. We had so much fun and love Oaxaca even more after the tour. Fully recommend this to anyone traveling to Oaxaca soon!!
Fun day with our guide Adriel
    Tim_T, May 2024
My partner and i did this tour yesterday. There were three more persons on the tour. The booking process was a little bit of a hassle at first because in the beginning there weren't enough bookings (just us 2), so the tour got cancelled the day before. On the next morning luckily oaxacool tours texted me if we were still up for the tour because 3 more bookings came in. Our tour guide Adriel and our driver Betto made sure we have a great tour. Adriel was the perfect guide for our tour. He started the tour explaining us a little bit about the current ongoing teachers demonstration. Also he dropped lot of infornations about Mexico as well. After that he showed us around the bakery, drove us to the waterfall and at last to the mezcal tasting. Our group had lots of fun with him. On the way back we even had a discussion about music because the whole group liked the same music. Really cool. Would recommend Adriel as a guide to anyone!

Shout out to Adriel for being a fantastic guide and host. Mezcal tasting experience is great and you have plenty of time to enjoy the petrified waterfalls
    Best tour!
    Mario_O, May 2024
Amazing experience! I am not a huge fan of tours but we really wanted to go to Hierva Agua so we got this your because it gave us more time there. Adriel made our entire experience worth while! What an incredible guide. If you are wondering if this excursion is worth it, the answer is yes look no further. We had an incredible group with the best guide who made us feel like old friends.
    The best tour!
    Cheryl_L, May 2024
The best tour we ever had! The tour is very well thought through. The tour guide Adriel and driver Obev (if we spelt correctly) were great! We learnt a lot of Oaxaca history and lifestyles of locals. Tours itinerary and tour guides as well as the drivers, of course also the vehicles are all so important. They were spot on for everything. There were only 5 of us in a vehicles with them both. The lunch spot was well thought through too. It wasn't any random spot but we get to try every local delicacies like mole, enchilladas and so on. We had a good time. This tour is the highlight of our entire trip. That said, 2 hrs at Hierve Al Agua may be insufficient for some people who want to dip in pools alongside with hiking to bottom of the waterfall. We didnt do either and time was just right. There was option of 3 hours though so it could be fine.
    Do not skip this tour!
    Tasha_O, May 2024
Honestly, our guide Avriel made the trip amazing with interesting and unique information on history and culture; he and Guillermo, our driver, made our time valuable and pleasant. Of course, the views of Agua el Hierve were spectacular and the mezcal distillery and tasting far more interesting and fun than I’d hoped. 10/10 recommend!!
