3 Days in Oahu for Foodies

I've eaten many incredible meals while visiting Oahu over the years, from mahi mahi topped with macadamia nut sauce at swanky restaurants with ocean views to malasadas and spam musubi bought from roadside stands. There's always new food to try, and with three days on Oahu you'll have plenty of time for some culinary adventures.

This 3-day Oahu itinerary for foodies kicks off with a food tour to get you oriented to the island and teach you a bit about its cuisine. Stops at the Dole Plantation and other farms offer a convenient way to taste tropical fruits grown and harvested on the island. Here are some activities I suggest to get you started.

If you only have time for one thing, make it a sunrise breakfast cruise.

You'll typically have warm weather when visiting Oahu, with some rainy days in the winter.

Day 1

Start your Oahu visit by getting to know its under-the-radar hot spots on a small-group food tour. You’ll learn about local specialties, visit fresh markets or fruit stands, and find out why Hawaii shave ice is so popular here. Be sure to come hungry so that you can sample everything along the way.

This evening, attend a [luau](https://www.viator.com/Oahu-tours/Luaus-Product-Tickets-and-Passes/d672-tag21625(—an iconic activity when visiting Oahu. You'll learn about Native Hawaiian culture and feast on local dishes, such as lomi lomi salmon, kalua pork, huli huli chicken, and macaroni salad.

Day 2

Take advantage of any jet lag and book a sunrise cruise for your second morning on Oahu. Since you're up early, enjoy breakfast on board (sweet taro bread french toast with Kona coffee, anyone?) while you watch the sunrise near Waikiki Beach and Koko Head.

This afternoon, dive deeper into Oahu's food scene. You’ll see where local products come from during a farm visit or eco-tour. Learn about pineapple farming on the Hawaiian Islands at the Dole Plantation, head to Tropical Farms Macadamia Nut Farm for a taste of chocolate-covered treats, or sample raw honey at a bee farm.
